[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] No question that this is a masterpiece, the performance of Kate Winslet is of disturbing quality. What will this young woman do when she is in her later years? I had difficulties to comprehend the plot first - but it is about old German topic: accumulation of guilt by doing nothing, out of lack of insight, shame, cowardice perhaps? Hana did not open the doors, since her simple mind could not figure out what the consequences might do to her. Her ex-lover did not interfere with the court proceedings, possibly for the same reasons: what would have the results of such actions done to his small mind? The law professor should have known better, but he might have thought that the moral decisons one must make one must do out of own resources. So, he is aloso guilty for poor judgement, not helping the court to obtain all the evidence available.
