This movie was quite strange, but I liked it. There were parts where I was laughing my head off. I think Joaquin's odd behaviour in the last year was the residual of his character from this movie. I thought everyone did well in their roles. The ending was predictable, but I still liked it.

Definitely worth seeing Joquin Phoenix act while he was still normal... I usually dont like G. Paltrow but she played her role perfectly in this one... worth the 5$ renting fee...

Well, I guess this main character could be depicting somewhat the reality of some loser. Still, I felt like beating him up after watching this.

I went to see this movie with good intentions... I wanted to like it. I enjoyed Joachim's performance, but the rest was almost painful in the sense that it was a winter film filled with discontent. Realistic discontent, but not really sure what the point was. Perhaps that is the intention. It was pretty predictable to me.

No wasted moments. Quality all around. Immersive, enthralling. Quirky finish but sometimes reality is stranger than fiction, right? Nice to see mental health issues taking more camera time. Joaquim caught it well - had me wondering if he knows of this intimately in real life. Gwenyth a lovely surprise. All characters played to perfection. NYC landscapes felt real - music was enveloping. Great entertainment. Will have you thinking once its done...

Well acted excellently scripted drama. River Phoenix and James Gray should both be nominated for academy awards for this film.

Great movie, great performances. Joaquin is brilliant in the role. Bitter-sweet ending, totally unexpected.

Cinema as it should be! Well directed, intimate, very emotional, G. Paltrow and Joaquin Phoenix's performances are outstanding, to me it was like a theatre play, very good casting, I could not see another actress than Paltrow to render this role with so much finesse and Phoenix, with so much intensitiy. Went out of the cinema and discussed the film with friends, to me it is a sign of a good film. Was pleased to see Isabella Rossellini, she looks so much like her mother Ingrid Bergman.

I found it difficult to rate this film... It is watchable but really just a so-so soap opera with a generous serving of family angst and a depressed man in weird relationships. A bit Woody Allen... ish...

This is the type of movie I could watch again and again. The chemistry between all of the excellent actors was brilliant. It was beautifully filmed and almost every scene was a gem.

A local reviewer mentioned Woody Allen's 'Match Point' as a film with similarities. Allen received an Oscar nod for screenwriting, and this one may qualify as well. Phoenix and Paltrow both showed their considerable acting chops. However, dare I say it, Gwyneth appeared long in the jowls for her role. Please, NO!!

I thought the movie was wonderful. It was a combination of suspenseful (in a romantic way), funny, and charming. I would definitely see it again!

Contains an unusual degree of truthfulness. There's such tenderness and poetry to the camerawork while at the heart of this is some pretty brutal ache, the finale especially. Phoenix does nothing to ingratiate or apologize or make his character needlessly likable, but he's never less than riveting.

I really enjoy this movie even if I was a bit surprised by the ending...

A 'homey' film, down-to-earth, Jacques Phoenix was acting funny, but that was his role. Rossellini did great. I liked it to its end.

Hard to say about this one. On the one hand, it is a very astute observation on love, and on loving the wrong people. On the other hand, none of the characters are very likelable. They are-however, very real and complex. I think it is the kind of movie half the audience will love, and the other half will hate.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] I enjoyed this film a lot. I think it was well made. I liked the music too. The cinematography was cool at times... immersive... like when they are in the club. Also, I liked Joaquin Pheonix, Vanesa Shaw and the mother Isabella Rosellini.

The only reason I give it a 3 is for Isabella Rosselini, the actor who played the father and vanessa Shaw. What a waste of time. I feel I got scammed by the "professional" critics of Rotten Tomatoes! A movie shouldn't deserve accolades just because it is about a jewish family and jewish neurosis.

The movie is set in an old fashioned location of immigrants and dry cleaners in Rockaway, L. I. Great acting in a not too ambitious love story which can be anticipated but still keeps our unflagging interest. The two girls are too gorgeous and Isabella Rossellini is great. Phoenix is totally weird and believable and made this before his Letterman appearance.
