A strong drama, well scripted and directed, with storming performances given by some of the UK's finest actors. Difficult subject matters of incest, priestly celebacy, homosexuality, love, and tolerance are intertwined in a tightly and woven story and treated of with delicacy and without recourse to facile judgementalism. This film elicited and made me challenge prejudices I never new I harboured. Rogers & Hammerstein's 'You'll never walk alone' could have been written specifically for this film; its use here is clever, beautiful and manipulative, and it makes me weep every time.

An absolutely superlative film that explores the human nature crawling in each of us. Issues of the power of the church, sexuality, inner conflict, and healing through resolution are depicted with realism. I left the clergy because of many of the issues shown in the film, unable to reconcile the conflict between evil and the role of the parish priest given the overarching rules of the church.

I saw the movie Priest and I thought that it was very emotional and dealed with a lot of issues as far as finding our own identity, and sorting the freewill we do have verses the agency which is this case is the church. I felt that many of the events that happened in this movie are reality based and are very good examples for us to try and understand other peoples action and in-turn understand our own.

As relevant today as it was in 1995, PRIEST is not another mindless Hollywood flick with gratutious sex and violence begging for a plot. Instead, it is the heartwrenching story of a young, idealistic parish priest in Liverpool who is questioning his faith. Father Greg (Linus Roache) must grapple with three moral dilemmas which torment him throughout the film: Should he give in to his homosexual desires? Should he break the seal of confession and reveal the incest being visited on a 14 year old girl? And, should he remain a devoted man of the cloth? To make matters worse, Father Greg's convictions and emotions are at odds with those around him, including his mentor, Father Matthew (Tom Wilkinson) -- a liberal priest who, like Greg, has been unable to live up to his vow of celibacy. Thankfully, the heavy scenes in PRIEST are broken up by frequent interludes of comic relief, mostly due to Wilkinson's character, which is almost never lacking in "unpriestly" behavior. Only three criticisms emerge: the relationships in the film form far too quickly, some of the actions and attitudes are exaggerated (presumably for contrast) and the ending is a bit over the top. All in all, this is an excellent film, a must see and well worth the 98 minutes. Caution: Rated "R", the subject matter and depictions are not for younger viewers.

I live in México. I´m mexican and catholic. I´m sorry for my english. But I need comment somenting about. This film is an extraordinary image of reality, rich in the begining human problem. In fact, I did a paper using the movie. Is a good material for reflexion.

I think this is the best film I have ever seen. It is very inspiring me. I am catholic. I am a former young Jesuit scholastic. I think Church must consider himself about humanity, weakness. For me church is not heavenly angel community but human community. Jesus is a humanist.

I cried. Lot's absolutely fantabulous. The conservatives can view it approvingly as well I should imagine, as their faults are pointed out, but not necessarily attacked. Great film. X.

It is an inspirational movie because it's reality that even the priest can do such thing, eventhough it would offend the catholic church. But the most important thing to remember was that we should know how to forgive others because even God forgive us to our sinss, why us can't do that. We're just human and we're not perfect enough to judge other!

Bring lots of kleenex but DO go. Devout "catholics" may be offended and/or unsettled by the frank realism but in the end even the non-religious must feel a new sympathy, even admiration of "men of the cloth" and the very real devotion, sacrifice, and pain they accept as "followers of Christ". A well written story accompanied by powerful acting make this a must.
