DVD: "1984"
Wow, I only managed to see this when someone put it up on google, and then it was removed shortly after. I was very lucky, because this movie gives a very real, and scary look at our future, the way things are going now.

Great movie if you're into the political kind of thing. Contains themes that you can recognize in current events.

Who would have believed that so much of this movie has come to pass. In China, you are only allowed to have one child and that by licence; every major city in the world is adopting random surveillance cameras to watch the masses, the usage of the pill is advocated and flogged by all walks of life, Europe has adopted one currency in anticipation of axis countries competing instead of individual countries (NAFTA's ultimate goal for the west) and Politically Correct thinking is being forced down the throats of the "educated" populace so that we can all CONFORM. This film (more specifically George Orwell) saw the future quite well. The next step is actually biblical where we will see a one world leader to truly fulfill this tyranical picture of the future. Truly, the Big Brother is not the kind of brother I'd like to have... Great Flick. If you don't think about the "system" after watching this one, your brain is in neutral.

This movie is an excellent adaptation from the "1984" book... And the book has an excellent history!

I first saw this movie in 1963 on late night television hosted by Don Amechie. Although it was not the complete movie that was first screened in 1956, watching the film changed my life and beliefs about not only totalitarian forms of government, but all politics. I only wish I could have seen the unabridged version that premièred in 1956.

This is the best movie I have ever seen because, that is my birthday. And I like movies about the future and flying cars and moon landings that didnt really happen and did I say flying cars?

In my opinion, the movie is an excellent vision of George Orwell's novel. The propaganda is done very well and Big Brother is also depicted quite well. Some of the scenes, though were not very true to the book and could lead to a little confusion. All in all, this movie is worth seeing, then seeing agian, and again, and again, and one more time for good luck.

Amazing movie, a must see for all science fiction lovers. The acting is so subtle and minimal. It's also Richard Burton's last movie. For those of us who were alive in 1984, aren't we glad that things were not as depicted in the movie? Maybe in the next century? George Orwell was certainly very advanced for his time. Watching this movie is like admiring a Jerome Bosch painting, the fruit of an imaginative mind far too progressive for its time. I intend to have my children watch it with me, maybe it will put in perspective how lucky and priviledged we really are, and how the freedom of thought and speech is the most precious of all gifts.
