Sam Rockwell is a good, under-rated actor. This is one of those movies that are really good the first time, then not entertaining at all to watch after that. So go see it once.

A very good movie where Nicolas Cage plays amasingly well. The psychological problems of the main character are so well developped, stressing as well as touching, this movie does not let us guess the ending which is probably the best!

I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a film with depth, feeling, and a unique appearance. If you're looking for a commercial, typical Hollywood-style con movie, this may not be the film for you but even then, if you brave out the first half hour, you will find yourself a little surprised and pleased by the time you reach the finale..

Cage was great as was the rest of the cast. Plot was engaging with a twist ending. Light on violence which was a nice change. Yes I'd recommend as video rental.

A good movie ~ be prepared for a dark movie, however. Well acted, nice twist at the end. A good watch overall!

Very good movie. You can tell how good it is by how long it's in theaters and it was in pretty long.

I simply loved this movie. Nicolas Cage is just excellent as always. He played his role so well. The twist kept me thinking about the movie the whole weekend. I recommend watching it.

Thoroughly enjoyed the movie even although I am not a real Nicholas Cage fan. Well filmed and tough not to like. Good plot in general and nice twist in the tail.

Not what I expected, Nicolas Cage gives a very impresive performance, but the plot is weak and predictable. If you enjoyed this movie then watch "nine queens" a perfectly made con movie.

I loved the irony. The help he received from a man that wasn't really a pschiatrist and the profound and positive impact his supposed daughter had on his life. She became his daughter. It was quite beautiful and funny to see the transformation of Roy's life.

I found Matchstick Men one of the greatest movies for Nicholas Cage... although I don't always like him in his movies, he wasn't actually that bad. In the end, I don't understand how he can be so forgiving! I know that I would never be... but I did like the plot and the irony in the movie.

This movie is better then most of this years releases - The Matrix 2, The Hulk, Bad Boys 2, Charlies Angels 2, Finding Nemo, Kill Bill and even Pirates of the Caribean. This movie is a clear oscar winner and leaves the rest behind.

First with Adaptation and now Matchstick Men, Nicholas Cage had totally redeemed himself! Although it was a little bit mean, I was in total agreeance with Sean Penn's diatribe a few years back about Nic Cage's choice of projects--so beneath him (you know the ones) He's done a careful and spot on portrayal of OCD and he really lets Lohman shine in her own right. This is not an exaggeration, if you love movies you must see this masterpiece, go now.

I have just seen MM and read quiet a few reviews. What is everybody thinking? I believe it was a good con story however nic Cage did not portray an obsessive compulsive person as well as everybody believes he has. I know others who have suffered from the illness and although different peope suffer from it in different degrees I think nic Cage's performance was too over the top. I have never come accross a person suffering from it who is so open and obvious about the disease. It also seems he may have rolled to mnay different illnesses into one. But hey it may have just been the movie producers fault and not Cage's. Other than nic's overacting of an obsessive compulsive person he makes for a good con artist. Sam Rockwell is great along with Alison Lohman. To be 24 years old and be able to portray a convincing 14 year old girl is pretty amazing!

Amazing movie. Ridley Scott has kept up his rep since Gladiator. The end is kinda trippy. If your lookin for a movie to enjoy, you will like it. But for those crazy, philisophical types, this movie is better then the matrix.

I appreciated Cage's 'neurotic' performance but the film was otherwise light and not extraordinary. There were a few nice moments provided by Lohman also. I recommend it, but just as a fun movie for a rainy day.

Great Movie! Best Ridley Scott Movie since Blade Runner... it has all the elements of a successful movie, it is touching (and I am not usualy touched), it has suspence, and a big surprise in the end (except for the too sophisticated of you, that never lay back into the let themselves fall into a story).. Three thumbs up.

Very slow moving and implausible on many fronts. For instance, (and not to give away the plot) since when did banks give access to safe-deposit boxes to other than the box holder? But otherwise an innocuous enough little flick that doesn't take itself too seriously. At least it wasn't depressing.

I thought the movie was very good, Nicolas Cage is fantastic, Sam Rockwell is also good, but the young acctress that plays the daughter steals the show with a wonderful performance. Not a movie with a ton of action but it has a good storyline and an interesting twist at the end.

Pretty impressive that a 24 year old can pass for 14! Cage did a great job with his personality traits, though there were the occassional inconsistancies. The story was well told. You don't see too many father-daughter movies ;) Good twist at the end but I do have a problem with movies that, in hind sight, have a bigger scenario that was all supposedly part of the grand plan that works out perfectly. It would have been better if there were a few hiccups in that. Over all a good movie. A nice renter..

I agree, Cage is fabulous as always, his portrayal of obsessive-compalsive disorder is classis, & should be a musy for psychology / psychaiatry students! As all thr movies about con artists, it advocates devil a little bit, but the ending is very positive (unlike most of them)

Cage takes on this challenging part and makes it his own. Brilliant acting. And same of Lohman, I'll be watching for her in the enxt couple of years. Excellent writing! A very good story. But was it just me that found it completely predictable? Maybe that's why I thought it was well written. Lol.
