Insanely good! E. Norton is outstanding as the lead in this film. Excellent story telling on the part of the director.

Amazing directing and cinematography on Tony Kaye's part, and Edward Norton displays one of his best preformances.

This movie never loses a beat! It's creepy, disturbing, intense and also a triumph, all in one. This is a must see, I highly recommend it. I had nightmares after watching this moving, that's how strong this movie experience was. Also, It is incredable that even though Derek (in the beginning of the movie) is such an evil person and you hate him, but at the same time you find yourself attracted to him. His strength perhaps? Edward Norton beefed up and made the character look good, it's a relief when the character actually turns to the good side. Rent it now, you won't regret it!

GREAT MOVIE! I saw this movie a long time ago when I didnt really know who Edward Norton was and I feel in love with his acting. Edward Furlong was also very good. The story just brings you in and by the end its like you just want everything to be happy... if only more ppl would see the light sometimes, I think the acting and the story are great, def a movie to see at least once! If not a millions times.

This is one of my favorite movies of all times. The acting is unforgettable. Edward Norton is definitely one of the omst taleneted actors out there at this time. Edward Furlong is great in his role! The music, the filming, the editing, the directing, everything is magnificent. Even though this is a violent movie in every angle (physical, emotionnal) humanity shines through. It gets you thinking. I have watched it 4 times up till now and I'm not tired of it yet, which is pretty rare for me. A masterpiece, you have to see it.

Edward Furlong was a perfect actor for the role of Danny. The two make a great team in the movie. Most Influencial movie I have ever saw in my entire life, and I think that the movie makes a strong point. I could watch it a hundred times because of the fact that no matter how many times they use the word "f*ck", they still prove a huge point on society.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Edward Norton is perfect as the neo-nazi who turned away from being a racist after being released from prison. Although embracing humanity, he cannot save Edward Furlong from going down the same path and being killed. Very sad and powerful drama.

Definitely a movie that changed my life. Not that I really had anything in common with any of the characters, but, man, my view totally changed. Seriously, everyone needs to see this movie... it will change your life.

You wanna see a realistic movie? Watch this one... It's all about what is real in our everyday lives. Racism is still part of our nations, unfortunately... Yes it was very violent at some points, but why pretend to hide it, when its really out there? Excellent movie, a classic... totally recommend it.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] This movie proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Edward Norton is one of the best actors today. He delivers a performance only a few would be able to manage. A lesser actor may have made this a lesser film. Derek is a convicted skinhead who learns the error of his ways after his stint in prison and tries to get his little brother out of the cult after he returns home from serving his time. This shows his acting range. The once omnipowerful leader of a skinhead movement now a weak fixture in the eyes of the people who worshipped him. In his weak yet hopeful eyes, we see Derek as someone who has reformed himself and who is striving to better things for all the people he cares about. This makes him weak. He needs to overcome the irrational fears of his ex-cohorts and save his family from further doom. My favourite scene in the movie takes place at the breakfast table when the not-yet-convicted-head-of-the-skinheads has a 'discussion' with his future stepfather. We can see the defiance in his eyes, the clarity of his thinking, his intelligence and knowledge. He is a leader, a bona fide rebel who will change the world. He is charismatic and is revered by all who don't know better---which is most people. And this is where the movie shows that it has an important message to convey. This, after all, is the kind of charisma and ego that Adolf Hitler possessed. Without this scene American History X, so aptly named, would be just another movie. We need to look at every camera angle, every movement of Norton's body, in order to fully appreciate his strong presence in this scene and to understand that he is not just some backwater idiot. This scene, without any hoopla and violence, is a very disturbing scene, yet I am sure that it takes place all the time around 'democratic' America. This has to be one of the top ten emotional dialogue scenes of all time. Norton carries the movie on every level. His range is unbelievable. He needs to act as superman and bring himself down to getting raped in prison and then discover a whole new role as a saviour. He is up there with Pacino, Deniro, Cage, Cruise, and Hoffman. This is undeniably one of the most powerful films ever made.

This movie should scare the daylights out of you and make you take a second look at how racism is spread among young people without strong family values, and how organized racism is contagious in angry youth, and runs rampant in the intolerant and nieve. Teach your children to love and be tolerant of others, and to appreciate our differences and learn by them. Edward Norton's acting was outstanding as usual. I didn't like the scene where he kills the black man against the curb. It was very disturbing, and everyone who watches it should be disturbed enough to try to change racism.

Definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen. It presents such a powerful message. Edward Norton is totally amazing in all of his work, and this is definitely him at his best. It's not for everyone, it can be disturbing, and extremely violent but it was still excellent. A MUST SEE.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] American History X defines the underlying and long lived growth of historical superiority between racial groups and the society in which they live. Kaye tries to protray a realistic way of constituting in a movie the ongoing feuds between diverse racial persons in contemporary America and the question which I devised from watching this hard-hitting, gritty drama, was ' how can we as human beings be so technologically advanced but be so primitive in terms of morals and ethics? These are the kinds of things which we should be taking from movies like this, it isn't just about entertainment, (which it undoubtedly provides the audience with) , but representation of real life and how we as society are acting towards fellow humans and the unhumane way we are protraying ourselves. There were some scenes in the film in which some people were unrealistic, such as the speed in which Derek reformed himself, but with research of the physcological analysis of people who are incarcarated it is quite easy to be reformed by the way in the film, Derek was blocked by hatred for non-whites he disperaged all kind of contact with reason but while in prison we seen him build a friendship with the black inmate and we clearly see Derek change his mind and become at ease with him and make up his own mind about different religions and racial groups and not be blinded by hate which come as a consquence of societial or criminal indifferences. But also with research of rape there is many ways of affecting people. We can see in the movie that the me who were responsible for the rape were to say blunting 'his people', so by that fact he responded in a way which would help himself and and his family. The acting in this movie was fantastic, I thought the committed of Norton was untounchable in comparsion to contemporary actors, with the way he protrayed his again split character in this film but how he represent the geniuely intensifying and inhumane personnal of the earlier Derek Vinyard but also his change from that to the reformed, boarded minded Derek Vinyard. Edward Furlong and Beverly D'Angelo also gave very good performances which reflected the outcome of the movie. The direction also was breathtaking with the way Kaye tried to protray this delicate but constant aspect of american society but also the way he just got the best out of all the actors, which made this a terrific movie to watch and admire.

Quite honestly, it was really unnecessarily violent. The ending was very bad, I felt like all he had worked for, ended up not "fixing" anything. Don't recommend it.
