The Gospel of John isn't a masterpiece because of it's filming. It is a masterpiece, because of the words. The words spoken in this movie are very powerful and carry so much meaning. The words in this movie have life -- eternal life. This movie really brings the Gospel of John to life. John's account of Jesus' life is not a chronological account. It is in defense of all the heresies that were popping up near the end of the first century. John was in the inner circle of Jesus' disciples and lived with Jesus for 3 years. John was a first hand eyewitness to the events during Jesus' life on earth and after his ascension. It was important for John to tell us who Jesus was and the importance of Jesus message. And it turns out that this gospel has the most potent words ever spoken. The question is: do you believe them?

This movie was quite amazing. I am only a teenager but I thought it was very moving. It is more enjoyable, though, if you already know the Gospel. I would recommend it to anyone. Anyone who says it was a bad movie has some issues. I've heard Muslims compliment this movie too!

I was impresses with the overall quality of the film. When we went, we thought we were going to the Passion (the Mel Gibson film) I appreciate the way the film used only the words from the Bible, and nothing else. It brought John's Gospel into a new light. I have since purchased the DVD and loan it to friends frequently. We have also watched it numerous times. I believe it accurately represents what God has to say to people... our need for His forgiveness... our need to surrender control of our lives to Him... His great love for us. And if you think the movie is good, read the rest of the book!

WOW some of the negative reviews here were hilarious! Did you know that this movie is a WORD FOR WORD iteration of the Gospel According to John? Which means, litterally, you can pick up the Gospel of John and follow WORD FOR WORD what the actors are saying (including the narrators parts). nothing added, nothing removed. The acting was very good, no oscar performances but the script didnt allow for that. The cinematography was also very good. The fact that Jesus is 'caucasian' or that everyone speaks in a british accent did not bother me. It's the way it is. Most actors are britsh, live with it. I think whats great about this movie is that it finally brings the message of the gospel (unscathed) to wider audiance (the 20the century 'I dont read books, except for the back of cereal boxes' era) Go see it.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] The Gospel of John was incredibly well done. It gave us a good picture of how little faith we have. Jesus was potrayed as caring nothing about the things of this world except about the people in it, which is how we should be. I also enjoyed hearing Him proclaim Himself as the King as many times as He did. It is the truth.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] I love everyword spoken in this movie because it is the word of God, and it shows what it is written that to Moses was given the Law, and to Jesus was given Grace and true. And this what the High Priests, the scribes and the Elder can not understand, but most of the people yes understood because Jesus Christ revealed through every miracle (sign and wonder)happen because God and Father was with Him. The Only One Who Can revealed the father is who is being in bosom with the Father Jesus Christ is the Son of God the Only One.

This is a fabulous movie... with an amazing Jesus. Henry Ian Cusick is the most charismatic Jesus, compassionate and intense. The cintematography is excellent. The music is fabulous. For those interested in the topic, this is a must-see movie. I liked it so much I started a yahoo group for fans [...]

The apostle John was not writing a screenplay. Using a first century document as a 21st century screenplay just doesn't work. Reading the Gospel is a wonderful experience, watching these actors recite it with British accents in front of cheap props was a painful experience. Both my wife and I fell asleep repeatedly during the film. Needless to say, we were very disappointed.

I have seen it four times already, and learn something new during each viewing. This is a fabulous depiction, taken directly from the Gospel written by the disciple Jesus most loved. The casting and acting was superb. I highly recommend it to children and adults alike.

As a Christian I thought that this movie would move me and be an inspiration. However, after 3 hours of bad acting, the usual "white" Jesus and predictable plot I must say that I was thoroughly unimpressed. So much so that I am reconsidering my convictions. Is this the "man" we are supposed to worship? Authentic? I have been to the holy land and saw very few caucasians. It is just so hard to take any of it seriously anymore. The Gospel of John = Insomniac Cure X 45. Waiting for Mel to hopefully get a few parts right. I will say, however, it put me to sleep faster than the bible.

I cried with tears of joy most of the way through the movie. I was overcome with pleasure as the Lord's word was brought to life. What a glorious experience. The settings and the actors were not quite what I was expecting yet the movie appeared very appropriate and true to the Lord's word. I will be buying the DVD and telling everyone I can to go and see the movie.

It was the most beautiful movie I've ever seen. To see the gospel come to live and being able to go back in time and see the life of our Saviour Jesus was a wonderful experience for. I recommend this movie to every believer and even to those who want to know more about the Lord Jesus and what he has done for us in order to give us eternal life. 3 hours seems like a long time but believe me once you are there you forget about time and would want to see more when is over.

Though the story should have been thought provoking and actually interesting, Gospel of John was neither! I could have sworn the actor playing Jesus said the exact same lines 20 times, such as "I tell you the truth! " and "If you don't love me, you dont love God! " I thought it was incredibly boring and repetitive, as did the people I viewed it with.

Any movie that depicts the reality about Jesus Christ and the Word of God is worth watching not once but twice or more. Therfore I do recommend this movie to whoever knows about who Jesus is, or knows a little or nothing. It is good spiritual food that gives power to live through real world. Do not miss it.

My husband and I saw the movie before Thanksgiving after a day of shopping for gifts. We were tired and grateful to sit in the comfortable theater seats for the three hour Gospel of John. We did not sleep. I kept silently saying yes, yes. As I left the movie, seeing the long lines at the theater, I hoped many would choose the movie I had just seen which filled me with happiness. In the next days, I received a magazine in the mail which offered the film on DVD. I knew what I would ask my husband to get for my Christmas gift. We have watched the 1st half with friends at church and enjoyed it with them. The Spirit message is powerful for those who have ears to hear.

In seeing the Gospel of John come alive again on the screen, I thought, "Well, another Christian flick." Well, God worked His wonder again, and the movie came alive before my eyes. Hearing the word-for-word and watching the actors gave me goose bumps or God bumps. Pay attention and you'll see Jesus disappearing sevaral times as exactly written in the Bible. I was deeply moved in my Spirit by this movie. I strongly encourage you to open your mind, heart, and eyes to this one, you won't regret it. Great movie - of course! The Bible being used is different than traditional King James or New King James or New International Version, but score is true to the Word of scripture.

Great movie. I didn't think it would work when I heard it was just straight narration, word for word from the Bible, but it did. Long movie, over 3 hours so make sure you use the facilities before the show!

The movie was incredible. I felt transported for the whole three hours. What astonished me the most was the ability of the actors and director to take words and scenes which I thought - knowing most of the Gsopel by heart - could never be potrayed in a realistic and truthful fashion and to do exactly that. Each of the actors seemed perfectly cast, and their ability to deliver deep, often difficult dialogue in a manner which made you feel as thoough these were real people was marvelous. I recommend this movie HIGHLY.

I'm still *digesting* everything I saw on screen last night when I went to see this movie... It is powerful, in a deep deep way. It's like I am seeing Jesus anew yet again. I was struck by the intensity of his character in this movie; intense both in joy and in pain at seeing our lack of spiritual sight as humans... Excellent, profound film - a MUST-SEE.

I tell you the truth... it was somewhat boring. So much so the person behide me fell asleep. Great story... however done the same old way! The cinematography was great and it appears to be the most authentic picture of its kind that I have seen. But somehow it was not thought provoking.. which seems somewhat strange considering the subject.

This movie was the most amazing gospel movie I have ever seen. It was the first one that made me truly think.."this is what it was really like to be there with Jesus." It was so true-to-life and honest. No melodrama, no over-acting. It is also a true-to-the-gospel account. Nothing added, nothing omitted. This movie is the entire Gospel of John laid out before you - word for word. It leaves you thinking that you had just been transported back in time to walk with Him. When it's over, you wish you could go back and do it again. (Which I will do next weekend!) Everything was so well done from the music to the costumes. Not to mention the actors who all did amazing jobs, from Simon Peter, to the woman at the well. But even with all these things, I have to say that the Writer gets my highest praise.

The Gospel of John movie is the most unbelievable movie I have EVER seen. The cast of the movie could not have been better. The Jesus character seemed to be as natural as any person could play. The portrayal of Pharisees/Sadducees (the equivalent of law twisting and perverting attorneys of today) was great. If anyone can watch this movie without shedding some tears for the great love Jesus had for sinful man, I can't understand it. I can't wait to get the DVD's of the movie I have ordered. I am going to use them for evangelistic purposes.

WOW! The best film about Jesus. Word for Word, the Gospel of John is the most challenging of all the gospels. Put those words with the most impressive looking of Jesus films, and you have got a Biblical masterpiece. The conflict between the religious leaders and Jesus is present throughout the whole film. The Gospel of John presents very well why the religious leaders wanted Jesus dead; because of his claims about who he is. The Gospel of John is a must see if you want to be challenged with the most profound words that Pontius Pilate said..."What is Truth? ".
