As an imigrant myself although not experiencing the same hardships I was immensly touched by the movie. Blown away to discover at the end that the film is based on real events. Who cares about unimportant facts (arriving in a car from Ireland)and being unafraid in a dangerous area of New York... the valuable points of the movie. The kids and the emotionally charged scenes are wonderful. I managed to hold onto my tears until the final scene with dificulty...

Add another voice to the choir of praise. Just returned from seeing this movie and it is still echoing in me. Wonderful performances by all of the cast - the young sisters were especially outstanding - to the point that I completely forgot at times that this film was being *acted*. I laughed, I cried and (having not read any reviews or seen any trailers prior to viewing) I did not know what was coming next. You can't ask for more than that from a movie. If you liked movies like Life As A House and Whalerider, then I think you will very much like this gem of a movie. If LOTR and Matrix is more your speed, you will find this one a bit of a snoozer. To each his own.

Last time I checked this movie was made a co-production between the United Kingdom & Ireland not Hollywood. Secondly who said they came from Ireland? Yes they are Irish but they never said they were moving from Ireland. Anyway open up your imagination you'll see things clearer. For the movie now it is quite great. Great acting from the kids and Dijimon (the neighbour) definitely worth the price of admission. It gets a 9 because it deserves a higher rating over here.
