I was interested 'till the end, isn't that what makes a movie worth(the)while.

True to Brian Moore's book, and an excellent English cast. It's a thriller that doesn't revert to the usual simplistic effects of Hollywood. By comparison it is slower, well acted and thoughtful. No easy answers are provided, rather it provokes discomfort and self-examination. Excellent - a nice change from the usual dross.

Absolutely terrible. The dialogue sounded like it came out of a crackerjack box. The characters were flat cartoons, totally predictable and unchanged throughout the film. Highly disappointing, as the basis seemed interesting. I would have been a 5, but the fact that the film believes itself to be a tribute to Jews killed in France, it gets only a 2. It's existence in this low form is insulting to their memory.

Michael Caine was at his best in this movie. He succeeded in making us feel sympathetic towards a man who, despite the evil in his past, sought, and perhaps deserved, redemption. In a realistic fashion, the movie showed that the proverbial hangman does not act alone but rather with the support and complicity of an entire society. Sorry, young'uns, that Brossard (Caine) did not leap to the next building but had to crawl (how boring! ) across a board between the two, and sorry, too, for the lack of special effects, but such is reality! This movie is Oscar material for Caine!

I thought this movie was done extremely well. You were kept o nthe edge of your seat for most of the movie, and were forced to think. The only issue I had was that it seemed that everyone had British accents, although they were located in France.

Good solid thriller. Michael Caine does very well considering the contradictions of his character and Tilda Swinton is riveting.

I was excited to see this movie and even passed on seeing Last Samurai to see it. 30 minutes into the movie I thought it was a bit slow but figured that the director was just taking his time to build the characters. 30 minutes later I was almost asleep. The last hour of the movie I could barely keep my eyes open and was begging for it to end.

Another movie with an excellent premise and potential for success, alas, it does not thrust. Yes, we know the church collaborated with the Vichy regime in France... can the plots be a little more complex? Is it too much to ask? Why do north american films treat their audience like children?

My girl friend fell asleep in the middle. Yes it was that boring. It is just a long slow motion chase scene. Location shots in southern France are pretty but not enough to redeem this film.

Excellent movie, and Tilda Swinton definitely is oscar-worthy!!! But I was a bit surprised by the bad acting of micheal Caine. He is so not cool!!!

Surprisingly, the critics' marks vary between A to D, mostly C and D. In my view, it's a perfect 120 minutes non-stop thriller with no artificial effects and totally convincing. History does corroborate the story. I am in awe for all the participants. I give it an A+. Best film of the year. Ted Fichman.

A great movie, unless you have read the book already. Fortunately, I had not read the book before seeing the movie and so I enjoyed the fast pace and suspense of the movie. However, now I am reading the book and I am disappointed in how the movie portrays Pierre. Throughout the movie I was almost sympathetic for him, but now that I am more than halfway through the book, I see him in a different light. Great entertainment value, and an unsettling plot resolution, but this movie does not do Brian Moore's story any justice. Roxanne.

A bit disappointing. The concept is good, but the script doesn't quite do the job. Everything is kept on one level and the suspense is minimal after a quite good opening. Michael Caine, as ever, is good, but his character has no arc of transformation.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Excellent movie. Michael Caine's playing as PIERRE BROSSARD was very strong and astonishing. The story was lacking some information in some parts, like why all of a sudden after 50 years Brossard has become the subject of retaliation, or he was smart enough to find out about those two agents were chasing him, but couldn't figure out his key source of information as his number one enemy. PIERRE BROSSARD's faith and trust to the Church sounds interesting, but brings many questions to mind, is he using church as a shelter while he is runing from his killers, or is he really beilived in God and repented by heart? If so, then why St. Christopher, as his guardian angel, couldn't save his life? To what extent we should follow religion? A must see movie. Eliza.
