I have read Carters book and the book that the movie was based on as well as done some of my own reasrch on the subject. This movie is not one hundred % acurite but thats because it's a movie not a documentry or a published academic journel it's a hollywood movie a few reviews down form this one you will find some one who gave it a 1 and then has a web link to another site. This site is a good one however it forgets that it is a movie and somethings are always changed to make a better story. The facts are that Rubin still remains close with Lazurus the you boy in the movie who is now a lawyer in toronto. The canadians that helped him are also not close with ruben as they have gone on to there own things since that time. There is no ill will between them they have just drifted apart. I have meet Ruben personally and he is a fine man. He has made alot of mistakes in his life but murder was not one of them. Read his book its his words about his life. The 13th round is a wonderfull book and you can start to grasp why he did some of the things he did if you understand the man. Ruben is a fine upstanding Man and I can handle people not likeing the movie but dont hate the man himself he has done nothing but good things since he was aquited of all charges he is a motivaltional speaker and spend lots of time teaching people about the dangers of racism and hate. Read his book thats the last time I will say it.

This movie is another boring patriotic movie that is completely ONE-SIDED... I only went to the this to check out what Carter had to say, this is ignoring several important facts and fictionalizing several scenes and people- look for the disclaimer. Do not go to this movie perparing to be brainwashed.

I think it showed the cowards of the police force for what they are, but you people forget it wasent just a movie it was osme ones life, was it so wonderfull that a man was taken form a child and wife? Was it wonderfull that because he was black he suffered the rath of my own people the white sons of b---hes that cared only oof their beliefs, this world was cruel then but it has not changed they gave him his freedom but they did not give him back what they stole from him, the life they took from him, you can not review this as if it was a movie, yes they made it as one but dont hide behid it the dramatics of cinima look beyond that at the story the tragic story we allowed him to be put away those who are white because we back then where afraid of every thing that we dident understand and thus makes us just as gulity for putting mr. Rubin hurican carter in jail, my blessings go to him and his family and those who did stant up for him as we should still stand up for him and his fight that he held on to, to remeber to never treat a black man or hispanic man or any other race unjust because he is a little dsifferent a shade differnt treat him acordingly treat hiom or her as you should, if they are gulity of a crime treat them a s human but with justness and the right punishment if there should so be one.

The Hurricane really did confuse me, it made me sick to even think that someone could be wrongly accused for something that he was not involved in, yet a lone the racism and events that took place throughout the movie. The movie set up and image it displayed to viewers was outstanding. All the time Rubin spent in a prison cell, finally being free into the world not remembering what it even looked like. This is such a great movie, doing an english assignment on it will be very interesting. All I can say to people, is hire or purchase the movie and realise what I am trying to put forward, That racism and culture beliefs are common in today's society as was back then.

The movie the hurricane is a moving and motivational film. Right from the start from it interested me. The actors involved were very well played, Denzel washangton played the part well. The movie is about racisem and white black people, and the injustuces of the crime system.

Rubin Carter should still be locked away in prison. He was a racist thug who murdered, robbed, and mugged people. He didn't even keep in touch with those canadian idiots who wasted their time to free carter. Don't believe everything you see in movies.

I loved the Huricane, it was the best movie I have ever seen. I wish there could be a sequel. I can't believe that one person's life could be so interesting. Denzel more than deserved his Oscar nomination in this true story. Scarey to think that innocent people can be found guilty. Makes you question the system, death penalty, etc.

Good movie. It was quite typical however. Maybe I'm saturated w/ movies telling me who and what to hate and try to have an impact on me. No, life is not fair, whether for minor cases or ones like Rubin's. These are usually due to selfishness for financial profit or power. It was quite predictable, but I nevertheless enjoyed it. Why am I giving it a 10 then? Because people tend to read critics w/ drastic marks- like you! E-mail me if you agree w/ what I wrote. Jay

I thought "The Hurricane" was an excellent movie! It dealt with real issues such as injustice, racism, determination, etc. Everytime there was a referral to "the Canadians" - most of the people in the theatre roared!! I'm wondering if Americans appreciated the comments as much as we did! All in all, a great movie!

I believe that the performance of Denzel in this movie is so powerfull and just fills you up with hope and positive energy. A true story that gets away from all the special effects movies which are just a waste of money. Very good!!!

Amazing!!! The last movie that had this much impact on me (and for some of the same reasons) is Schlinder's List. I fail to understand how The Hurricane could be passed over for an Oscar nomination for best movie.

I think this movie was extremely well done. The only thing I would argue with would be that some of the information in the movie wasn't entirely accurate according to some documentaries I have seen. I also thought that Denzel Washington played Carter's character really well and even slightly resembled him.

Great movie? Let's be real. The subject material alone for this movie is responsible for all the raves you see above and below. If you examine the film-making aspect, though, you'll have to admit it's not one of Jewison's strongest efforts and although the acting is strong, there is nothing in the movie that you wouldn't know from listening to Bob Dylan's song. In fact, if I hadn't heard the song I wouldn't have seen the movie. Therefore I was disappointed when after 2+ hours I left feeling no more enlightened. It's like they did a live adaptation of the classic hit! I felt so much more could have been done, rather than the old tired "poor minority gets the shaft from the establishment" theme which is only part of the story. Much more emphasis on Carter's personal struggle, life in jail, progress as a writer, etc. The 20+ years he spent wrongly imprisoned must have had more events to them not touched on by the movie! And what about the eventual "falling out" with the canadians who freed him? I'm sorry, but this movie is a bust considering the strength of the source material. Wait for the video, and even then only if it's on special. Far below expectations.

Not to take away anything from Denzel's acting or the trajedy that Mr. Carter went through but in my opinion this film is not Oscar material. I walked out of there feeling like I watched a "movie of the week" on tv.

The Hurricane must be one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. The part in the movie where Denzel is talking to his hatred and to his fear is an amazing sequence. The way he acts in that scene touched me in so many ways as a Denzel fan.

Was the best movie ever, Hurricane has had it real bad all his life and when hope appears in front of him by the presence of this black young man who read his book well he knows he is saved no matter the outcome. I saw this movie with pain in my heart and hope for him. Denzel is just great in this movie I think its the role he ever played thumbs up Denzel and to all those who worked on this film am going to read that book now.

Denzel Washington deserves the oscar (although chances of him getting it are small... he was also robbed for Malcolm X but I digress). This incredible movie succeeds where many have failed: its flashbacks are artful, masterful. The performances are flawless, with two main characters undergoing transformations that are both believable and seamless. Its social commentary is at once obvious and subtle, discouraging and uplifting. Somehow, everything comes together in this movie where it could have been very easy to mistep into the ridiculous or melodramatic. The only reservation I had was with the Della Pesca character, chosen to embody the corrupt forces working against Hurricane. I feel that the true horror of the conspiracy of many was lost to this somewhat dubious incarnation... but still, overall, an outstanding, moving, thought-provoking work.

Excellent movie! Denzel turns in a strong performance, and really seems to shine in roles in which he faces adversity. The supporting cast is also good, with a special mention to the young actor who plays Carter's protégé and inspiration. The movie does have some weak points however, for example, how could three amateurs uncover evidence after 30 years of incompetence? Jewison should take notes from Stone's in-depth approach. Also, this movie made me proud to be a Canadian ;-).
