Bad props, sure. Grainy camera shots, yes. But any of that will not be noticed when watching the movie (unless you are watching it just to pick out every little mistake) as the plot and the gags are BEYOND FUNNY. You find me another movie with a talking Beaver, drunk alien who believes he's Jesus , and the thousands of make you Rofl jokes and then come talk to me about camera and prop crap.

Phil the Alien was a real treat. I've seen nothing like it. The movie was hillarious and strangely touching with great and surprising depth.

Hilarious, the perfect mix of quircky space humour and phillisophical beliefs.

Refreshingly funny and irreverent! I laughed from start to finish. Not a real deep movie, but the humor was witty and fresh. Gotta go now, need more medicine!

I thought this was a very entertaining, touching and truely funny film. Whatever technical flaws there may be, actual lend to the very nice feel that this movie has.

A high school drama class could make a better movie than this. [...] The reason why Canadian movies are not advancing. Avoid.

Phil The Alien was the most fun, witty, and amusing movie I have seen to date! It's a must see for everyone who has a good sense of humor.

Is it too much to ask for a plot that makes sense? I think they took three versions of the script and shuffled the pages. It does have the odd funny scene, but they are rare and not that funny.

I am an alien--a foreigner I mean--in Canada. I was invited by one of my Canadian friends to watch this movie, a Canadian movie. Its was a really good movie, in that it interprets a sci-fi story about alien in a totally different way (Canadian Way? ) than "mainstream Hollywood way." Yesterday, I told my classmates in the Ph. D. seminar class about the movie, a story that an alien was alienated by human being into an alcoholic and addicted to cigarettesa human being. Remember that Phil said there is power but no violence in their planet! I also told my classmate that I liked the movie, because the lower budget, simpler scenes and personnel relationship give me another way to access to an alien story by escaping from Mainstream Hollywood style construction. Too bad that the nice theatre of 200-300 seats only got 6 people. This indeed indicates that how much people have been constructed by the mainstream stylemovie is good only when it has huge budget, complicated scenes, grand social background
Go and see it, a story about alienation of alien filmed in an "alienated way." Don't miss it..

It is perfect. The timing is great, the humour is hilarious, it is the same humour as napoleon dynamite, but is less quotable. It's FANTASTIC. The next cult classic.

I think this film started out with a good idea but the followthrough is another mediocre, low-budget Canadian film. From cheap props to grainy, often out-of-focus filming to cheap gags, this is a testament to the weak efforts of film making in English Canada. Don't get me wrong, English-language Canadian films can be very good (Snow Walker, Foolproof, Falling Angels to cite examples), but for the most part they pale in comparison to those produced in Quebec - and Phil the Alien is a prime example.
