User's review

Saw the premier. It was great to see a contemporary version of the story with cutting-edge SFX and that holding close to the original storyline. Too bad Spielberg played it safe with his choice of leads. I've never liked Dakota Fanning's acting although many do. It's overdone and I detest her shrill, whiny voice. Fortunately, she's matured somewhat and does a passable job in this picture except for that voice... arghh! The real problem is Cruise. Why Steven, why? Who takes Tom seriously anymore? His personna is more cult spokesman than actor now and he is a bad one on both counts. Do you really think your wonderful Shoah Foundation compares to Tom's cult beliefs as you said? Don't mix film with politics! This film is an entertaining summer blockbuster and is worth seeing but it could have been a whole lot better.
