This film exalts the spirit of men, very, very good.

This film does what cinema-- as an art form and as the diary-entry of humanity's collective history-- should be. It is moving, funny, sad, and not at all sappy. I thouroughly enjoyed it.

I am a history buff of this particular period and I have to say... bullocks! Horrible interpretation of the real events of December 1914. The movie is a poor Disney version of a World War I period piece. The sets are horrible. I have never seen a battlefield so clean and neat. The same can be said for the ubber-clean uniforms and trenches. The reality is that the conditions these poor boys lived in were disgusting and dirty. The movie did a poor job of portraying this reality. Another issue was the poor cinematography and sound editing. The operatic lip-syncing was very poorly done and ruined these potentially emotional moments of the movie. Also, most people can see thier breath in the middle of winter. However, this might not have been a consideration for the director as he was too focused on spraying really fake looking snow and ice on the fake looking set. If you know NOTHING about this moment in history or if you know nothing about World War I, you might enjoy this movie (I said MIGHT) If you have ever studied military history, you will roll your eyes 322 times during this piece of fluff. Recommendation - wait for the DVD and then only rent it if you have a 2 for 1 coupon.

Excellent movie. Very touching and mooving, but not melodramatic at all.

This improbable story of the meeting of citizens from four nations would have been rejected by the film industry if it had been labelled 'fiction'. The absurdity of the time and place is graphically displayed and the harrowing final sequence portends the future.

One of the most moving, memorable works of film seen in a long time. Thoughtful and thought provoking it was a story of the triumph of the human spirit in war times or any times. Go see this movie NOW!!!

Great movie. Maybe there is some home for humanity.

While the premise of the film was promising, the acting was shallow, and the scenes were disconnected and at times felt like a series of parodies. Full of tiny momemts of realism that could have been developed further to avoid the feeling of pure fantasy. Although European, the film has plenty of annoying Holywood cliches, which are certainly inappropriate in a film about WWI. While attempting to be a heartfelt reconstruction of the possible event of that night, the film only succeeded in mocking those events; moreover, the viewers had no sense of the difficulties faced by these soldiers in the continuing battle.

A sober rending for a wonderful story, showing us again how thin is the line between being friends or ennemies. A bit slow at the begining but well worth it.

Superb!! Real story and great acting as only seasoned professionals can do. Surprised me and was not really depressing as I had feared.

Very dull and no action at all. The topic could be interesting but the result is very poor.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Does it want to be a serious or dramatic movie? Or does it want to be comic? The movie fails on both sides. The topic is interesting but the characters are not credible. How is it possible that there are soldiers speaking French, German and English and they understand each other in 1914? How many people were able to speak or understand the three languages at that time? The priest celebrates the Christmas mass in Latin and there are at least 3 mistakes in Latin in the 5-6 words he says. The difference between the two priests is too clearcut: good and evil. The soldiers play soccer all together, they drink, they talk about women: too much to be believable. They were not motivated to fight, OK, but they were at war, weren't they? The movie gives the idea that the entire WWI was a farse: but we shouldn't forget that the conflict caused millions of dead. I found also ridicule the guy with the alarm clock and the gay soldier. The characters are not depicted with enough details and therefore spectators don't get involved enough in the story.

The historical facts behind the premise are probably more interesting than what this film presents: a little too much cliche, simplified platitudes, and two-dimensional characters.

Excellent. Based on a true story. Amazing how enemies can become friends and return to being enemies at the stroke of a command. A message for all human beings which unfortunately will never be learnt by us humans. This is not a Brad Pitt blockbuster and it is a bit slow but it is an excellent movie. It is not just a Christmas movie. It is a human movie.
