If you are addicted to mindless hollywood "entertainment" then please don't see this movie. If you want 90-minute relief from sophomore jokes and movie pablum then please see Kamataki... a movie that actually has something to say and provides unique insights into Japanee culture. Highly recommended.

I think this movie could have been much better, the acting was weird and I would agree with most of the comments it was weak. But I didn't expect it to be that good anywayz, there was too many add's around montreal and that for me always suggests a desperation from the movie makers point of view I do not advise anyone to watch this movie.

By far One of the worst movies I have ever seen not worth the $10 or my time. Definitely a waste of money/time I do not recommend this movie at all.

Kamataki is a magnificent and highly inspiring movie. The energy and inspiration of this movie is very positive and life changing. The main character is convincing. It is refreshing to see a young man searching for (and finding) a meaning to his life, discovering the poetic side and finding a way to inner peace and happiness. I highly recommend this movie.

Kamataki offers a rare metaphor for passion and the complex care it takes to achieve balance within our internal furnace. Despite a slow beginning, the story of a young man embracing his lineage and tradition under the tutelage of an eccentric Japanese mentor, seizes the audience with lyric charm, in a way most North-American films can not.

I think Kamataki is a very beautiful and highly inspiring movie. It is one of the rare movies where the energy and inspiration is invested into a positive, life promoting message. Matt Smiley (Ken) acts in a very natural, convincing manner. Contrary to depressed or enraged "heroes" we are so used to see, it's so much fun to see a young guy who finds meaning in life, it's poetic side, and the ability to be happy. I very much recomend this movie.

The movie Kamataki is like its namesake: a slow and intricate process to finally obtain a beautiful work of art. Beautifully shot and very well acted. Wonderful Japanese landscape and funny & moving dialogue. A must see!!!

Kamataki is a story about reigniting the desire to live. After Ken Antoine, played by the beautiful Matt Smiley, unsuccessfully attempts to take his own life, his mother, not knowing what else to do, sends him to stay with his crazy uncle in Japan. As his uncle reignites Ken in unorthodox and unexpected ways, this journey not only changes Ken’s life, but may very well be the reason he is saved, period. Skilfully directed by Quebec's own Claude Gagnon, the film is a very enjoyable film of self-awareness and social interaction while never coming across as preachy. Gagnon clearly has an eye for symbolism as he lets his images get across the point he is trying to make instead of making his actors spell it out. Very-well acted, with beautiful cinematography, with one of the most beautiful opening shots of Montreal I have ever seen on film, this movie is well worth the price of admission. Smiley has a very promising career ahead of him, indeed. I have seen this film twice already, and I must say, I got even more out of it the second time around. It’s one of those films which may very well keep giving something new with each viewing. Highly recommended..

One thing I can't figure out is how it reached the cinema.

I feel so bad that I spent my money on such a boring movie. The story is very weak and the dialogue is even worst. My little brother could have directed a more meaningful movie.

Thought story a bit boring and confusing. Perhaps due to poor development of background or dialogue, did not really feel for many of the characters. Found myself grimacing at certain dialogue lines or just unable to understand what they were saying due to heavy accents. Liked the un-Hollywoodness of it though, eg, slower pacing and lack of irritating orchestral soundtrack. Interesting use of vase-making technique as metaphor for building character, living life, but think film could have been much better if only some of the technical elements were treated differently.

Hmm I was going to say one of the worst movies I have ever watched but I think its only fair that I give it the movie some credit and say THE WORST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN. It was just sick and boring!!! I felt like it was the most boring almost hour and half of my life! It was so bad that I actually advise you all to go watch it, just so you can get a feel of the worst movie you will ever see it was tooo slow you can hardly understand anything the "Wise" japanese guy was saying, the diturbed canadian " hmm I don't even wanna comment on his acting or lack of it" everything was bad I can't even say the actors were bad because I can't consider them as actors my god I can go on forever, but really it was ssoo bad everyone around me was shocked I think I herd a couple complaining how stupid and boring it was but I think that was tooo nice of them. I think the only ppl. Who might actually enjoy this is the guy who made the movie, the ppl. In it and hmm someone with serious issues.
