This does NOT deserve the title of a documentary. I was expecting to at least get a sense of Young's life, but it's basically a live concert. The initial scenes were at best poorly executed and even though the music is very good, it was disappointing because we expected a documentary... just go prepared! (I had recently seen a very good music documentary on Leonard Cohen, which probably contributed to my disappointment)

NEIL YOUNG performs live. That's enough said really isn't it? One minor note: The song "He Was the King" is the only track that was omitted from the prarie wind album on this live show. It is arguably the best song on that album (my opinion anyway) and I wonder if it had something to do with the fact that they he was playing in Nashville and the song is entirely about Elvis? Anyways... the show is brilliant!

If you can appreciate where Neil Young fits in the history of music, Canadian or otherwise, then you must see this movie. If you don't know who Neil Young is and you don't like country or folk music, then you may want to take a miss.

Hi. I went to see this movie and now I must say I always did like Neil Young (I have 2 old records -after the gold rush + zuma ) which I purchased back in the late 70's or early 80's. I hear his music on the radio every year and always enjoy it. I have to write and say this, because I have never seen Neil live. Now that I have seen him on the movie concert and not live yet. I want to see him live. The show was so good-----I can't find the words to describe how wonderful and amazing Neil Young is. The words and story behind each song, , , , how he sings with such meaning and feeling, , , , nobody can match his unique style. The music is un--------------------- explainable. The voilin, , , , the horns, , , , the back-up singers, , , , his guitar, , , , his harmonica, , , , , it goes on and on. What a mind he has... what a gift to all of us. To be able to listen and now I saw him live on big screen. Yes to see him live will be my next goal in life. Was it worth seeing----you bet. It should not be a 10 out of 10 but 11 out of 10. Go see it. Other bands that I have seen live are------rolling stones, jagger always entertaining, aerosmith, tyler always giving, robert plante, I will always remember whole lotta love to see him sing it live. Others bands kiss, david bowe, cheap trick, rod stewart, nazerath, tom cochrane and so on. Neil Young is a master at what he does----it's not wild and crazy like some of those new bands. It's a honour, , , it makes you appreciate the songs he writes and sings. The emotion and heart that he puts into every and I mean every song. You have to see it to believe it, , , , I know we all hear him, , , , but to see both is a miracle. Go see him live or at least the big screen concert. You to will rate him 11.

Heartwarming concert demonstrating the wonderful personality of Neil Young and his creative ability in writing songs that you can relate too, enjoy and from which you get his message about relationships and life. Thoroughly entertaining.

Absolutley spell-binding. The film-maker has managed to capture Neil Young at a very emotional time in his career and the result is one of the most moving, spiritual and powerful performances I have ever seen. In three words:Don't miss it!

For diehard fans of Neil Young, this is a "must see". For those unfamiliar with his work, it is an intimate concert setting that reveals some details of his upbringing and life experiences that shaped his music, and resulted in his recent work, which was influenced by his medical crisis which could have ended his life, and also several of the more familiar songs he has shared with us over the years. I was particularly impressed with his solo appearances, which highlight his musical genius and emotionally motivated storytelling ability. No one in the theatre left their seat until the last credit had rolled and the screen went dark.

Wonderful concert film... Jonathan Demme just held the camera and let the music roll. And what glorious music indeed. I am just coming to fully appreciate Neil Young's voice and music. The clarity and the honesty of the lyrics are at times heartbreaking and at times up-lifting. There is hope, there is history, there are regrets and there is love... for his guitar, for his dog, for his neighbour and fellow man, for his friends and lovers. You have to see this film... there was spontaneous applause in the theatre as the credits rolled.

This movie is a Neil Young concert. I thought there might be more to it than simply watching the taped version of the concert, but no... Neal Young concert all the way. If you are a die hard Neal Young fan - then you might like this. It should be classified as "concert on tape" and not a documentary.

Being Canadian, I've always been a Neil Young fan but after enjoying this film I feel like I've spent a little time with his family and friends. The upcoming DVD will be my offering to my family and friends at Xmas.

It's Neil man. Plain and simple. For all the people that haven't been getting him and continue not to, it's their loss. A genious, one of the most prolific song writters ever. True to himself, his fans, and a ferociuosly private man in world where his fame doesn't allow for such a thing. The movie didn't surprise me but did nothing but made me smile from start to finish as I watched it with 30 or so people in downtown L. A. during the premier. Love the man. Have been seeing his live shows for 30 years now and have lost count of shows, usually multiple per tour, 4, 5, or 6 per tour if possible. And can honestly say it hasn't been enough. Go see the film, it may cleanse your soul!!!

What an awesome opportunity to get into Neil Young's life. I have never seen a close up with out a hat, I felt like I was in the car with him. The first half hour was hard to get into, the movie has a slow, smooth, quiet pace. Once I got the groove I was toe tapping. The movie is alive, I will buy this DVD. This movie made me feel pride in my Canadian heritage.

A very moving & intimate piece on probably the most prolific singer-songwriter of the 20th century. A must see for anyone who is a serious music lover. Can't wait to buy the DVD.

MAJOR WARNING: Beware that this is not a movie, but rather a concert. There is perhaps 10 minutes of dialog at the beginning, but the rest is a (very well shot) concert. If sitting front row in a Neil Young concert turns your crank, see the movie, if not, avoid at all costs.

Surprisingly emotional. Intimate and touching. With great song sung story telling by a Canadian icon. Ask yourself this. When was the last time you were at a movie where the audience clapped at the end? Destined to be a classic in this genre.

Brilliant. The whole audience was seated and quietly watching the movie to the very end. Not one person, except me (had to go to the bathroom) moved from their seat. I have never been to a movie where everyone sat to the end. This was a piece of brilliant directing. The director will surely be copied. This is another first.

Easily regarded as yet another work well-crafted by the artist, and defined by strong aesthetic and inherant substance-—consistent with Neil’s varying and homegrown delivery. A pleasure and delight all around..
