My wife gives it a 5 and me a 6. Great direction of actors, puts us in that time and place almost as if you were there. It's just that some scenes are wayyy tooo looong, almost a two hr. Movie.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Powerful with spiritual and physical vitality... how Igluliks survived is a mystery. Very well directed, great actors. The scenery is breathtaking and scary at the same time. Go see it, you won't regret it.

The inuit culture is very complex. However, this film decides to show only certain parts of their culture in context. They have had to jump from the stone age to the digital age in less than 3 generations. Those who keep an open mind can appreciate this film. Those who cannot and chose to leave the theatre have the same amount of patience as those who have historically repressed the Inuit. The inuit are more expressive in their faces and what they do not say than what is said. I feel for those who cannot accept that way of life or at least take what they can out of it.

An inspiring film... the north is so beautiful, and the native people had such wonderful traditions. What an amazing country we have. The movie is a visual feast. It's too bad that it gets panned by some viewers. Maybe they should stick to "who-done-its".

This was a great movie. I took one of my more dim witted friends to it and they seemed to understand the basic context of the film. They really like snow, and with all the snow, the movie was a hit. A couple beside us kept complaining that there weren't any hunting scenes, and felt that the Inuit were portrayed as barbarians. To the contrary, it was an epic of grandeur and a radiant testimony to the peoples of the north.

Although this film is supposed to be a dramatization based on the journals of the explorer Knud Rasmussen, it has the feel of a documenary of a way of life that is all but lost. Definitely not for everyone, but for those who appreciate this type of unpretentious film, it is indeed a gem.

It's very interesting to see how the inuits live and the encounter with the Greenlanders. The movie gives a real impression of those people, their values, beliefs and habits.

Despite previous reviews I would like to say that this movie is exceptional and should be seen. Now bear in mind if your IQ is below 60 then you may have a hard time appreciating this film but give it a chance none the less.

Ignore the bad review. Sure, if you want to go see a thriller, with plot twists or stereotypical scenes of inuit hunting this isn't your movie. But if you want to experience something truly profound and have a modest attention span, take it in. As with anything in life, with great patience comes great rewards.

There was no story at all. A lot of singing like screaming. The scenes were only white. They didn't show any type of hunting... About 1/4 of the people walked out in the 1st 10 minutes into the movie... It WAS that boring... My husband and myself both closed our eyes at one point. [...] We wouldn't have paid money to see this one nor would we have wanted to be paid to watch it... Thank you for the freebe anyways... That's only our opinions, so if you're interested in this type of movie, go check it out for yourself. Good Luck :-)
