This film is beautiful, especially in its look. There are some plains and old buildings, sure, but it's the way the camera makes you see things, the angles, the lenses, the lingering tendencies, the rich colours. The play between shadow and flame is deep and resonates in the film's expanse. You can really feel the space, the characters as live human beings instead of 2D historical figures. I loved how the characters' thoughts and emotions played so well on their faces, in very real, subtle ways. This film tells a story that's more interesting than you might imagine it to be, in a leisurely--but never lazy--fashion. Expect something different. Action-lovers: stay away!
