«I can't really remember when I last had any hope, and I certainly can't remember when anyone else did either. Because really, since women stopped being able to have babies, what's left to hope for? » In the year 2027, the youngest person on Earth is 18 cause human can no longer procreate. A man is asked to escort a young woman who apparently has something that could end the civil war in London. She turns out to be pregnant and the story takes epic proportion as the main character will risk his live to take her safely to their destination. Alfonso Cuaron signs a powerful film that looked good on paper but with his talent he made it even better. He uses a lot of long takes and some of them are simply true «tour de force» as they may leave the viewer wondering how it can have been done. Rather than spending time with too much dialogues, Cuaron shows us a series of photographs on a table to explain the whereabouts of his characters. That way we understand their motivations, their past and their present. Clive Owen plays the hero, an almost alcoholic man who his brought into the situation despite himself. He gives a very sober performance, almost underacting making his character even more realistic. Julianne Moore is the ex-wire who finds him for the job, she has a smaller part but she is strong as usual. Michael Caine is surprising here, playing a role we wouldnt have expected, he sort of is the comic relief of the film but he aint there to kill tension, his character is extremely important to the storyline. Children of Men has very subtle anti-war comments while bringing up lots of philosophical questions about a possible future. It shows the darker side of men and its very realistic. Extremely intense. The war scenes are absolutely awesome, the actors were actually in danger and at some point it feels like they arent acting but rather scared for real. It almost looks like a documentary cause of the haunting long takes. Children of Men tells an epic story with precise dialogues to bring us the information we need to know and it never feels forced. It's a very emotional film but also kind of disturbing. It has real 3-dimensional characters and a real subject matter. It will someday get the «cult film» status. Great social commentary as well. Easily one of the best film of its year. Simply amazing.

I had a good time looking at it. I wish that there would be more development of the reasoning behind the action of each group instead of the shooting war.

Throughout the entire motion picture, Children of Men is exhilarating and a brilliant Cuaron sci-fi masterwork from stellar performances leading Clive Owen, Michael Caine, and Julianne Moore bring captivating roles all their own. Alfonso has brought truly an impressive futuristic heart-rending and charming stunning success. Many users consider that Children of Men is a hard-to follow provoking and dull representation as well as incredibly unsatisfactory, well I disagree. This charismatic motion picture can effortlessly be put-down by many non-moviegoers, but this film desires some gratitude after all the hard work those filmmakers go through to formulate a standard film. I tell you, some people just don’t comprehend how much work the production designers go through to put movies together. Tons of people just judge movies by how boring it is, or how unsuitable or violent it is, well that’s just virtually being offensive. It’s like judging a person of how they look, if they’re black or white, it doesn’t matter. Movies are a little different but the example still means the same sort of thing. But overall, I reflect Alfonso Cuaron’s Children of Men as one hell of a film.

This movie was OK. I liked the idea of the plot, but when I saw it it was disappointing, because of the unrealism. Otherwise, it could have been a good film.

Set to close to our real time to be really believable. Disturbing to think that our world can fall apart so badly.

Did not really care for this movie. Can't they put Clive Owen in a better movie than this. I think he belongs in action movies. Michael Caine was somewhat the comic releif. The movie was boring.

A huge political statement does not make a good film. Rather boring and too many grim scenes about the "future".

I really liked this sci-fi. I predicted the stories climatic scene, but it was so well done it still choked me up. It really makes you think. It leaves some loose ends, but leaves them in an acceptable way to me. I am one that doesn’t need a Hollywood ending in every single movie I see.

Too dark - not connected enough with our lives to be prophetic - focused on the apocalyptic hope of one birth without developing the how and why of it sufficiently. Could have been much better.

It betrayed my expectation. I thought it was a SF movie but actually it was a kind of an action movie. The premise was great and exciting. So I expected insights and struggles for human survival in the future. I was seeing it without any clues on the mission and motivation of the main character, so I felt no compassion or suspense. There were a lot of good and realistic scenes but they had no meanings. Before I decided to see it, I just read the average votes and one or two of the comments. After I saw it, I read most of the comments. I agree with many of the comments with low evaluation. I was surprised at the content in the comments with high evaluation and the very wide variety of the opinions. I had better quit judging only on the average votes.

Theo is a bored bureaucrat in a near future world that is becoming unravelled at the seams. The youngest person on earth, the last child born in 18 years, has just been killed and Theo, disgusted with the events, his colleagues and his mundane life punctuated by bombings, visits his friend in the country. He returns, refreshed, only to be kidnapped by his ex-wife who has a job for him: get the last pregnant woman on earth, a despised immigrant, safely to the Human Project. Filled with references to current politics, dystopian-angst and racial strife, Theo's journey from lazy, minute counting office worker to revolutionary hero, makes this movie worth watching.

The movie was great, it was very intense and easy to get into the movie and cought up in it. But their was no ending it just cuts off, did they have a money shortage? Otherwise it's pretty satisfying.

Warning: spoiler info below Children of Men has lots of artistic photography, ceaseless and bloody military violence, and an interesting premise (a childless society) The movie fails hard though. Many plot threads are introduced then abandoned. These include - why can't people reproduce, why does the movie not have an ending, is the character with child the only one - and why was she able to conceive, what's with the relentless animal symbolism, why are there newspapers everywhere in the future, who is the Human Project - why should we care, and why is relentless violence depicted. All of these matters are raised, then left hanging. PD James book "The Children of Men" doesn't not answer these questions as it is an entirely different story. Though the photography is very good, the weakness in plot makes an evening with this movie an annoying ordeal..

This terrorizing film will keep you concerned and on edge through out. The director seemed to have no speck of humanity left in him when he made this. The crumbling society is very realistic, and the killing and blood is overly depressing. But, apart from the war-like lifestyles, the film is quite interesting and the graphics will keep you wide awake the whole time. The trust that Ashitey has for Owen’s choices really helped to build the story. The trailer is somewhat misleading and may give you the wrong impression about what really happened in the movie. This movie is still very enjoyable and I would recommend it.

Many aspects reflect the largest international conflicts we deal with currently, and the magnitude of the outcomes they cause should be a wakeup call to all of us. By far the most striking, honest and socially important film of the year. Viewing is mandatory; and if you don't like it, then you didn't get it.

An amazing film: intense and overwhelming at times, but also graced by the subtleties of performances by Caine, Owen and Moore. I think many 'won't get it' because in a world where Hollywood gives us prepackaged car chases, choreographed fights and candy-coated endings, this distopic film is unfamilar territory to most. There is hope in the end, but it's just not as pretty as many expect: this movie requires a level of engagement from viewers that can be rewarding if they're willing to see the depth of the director's vision in relation to the original text.

Children of Men has the earmarks of a bonafide visionary. With it's pacing, tracking shots, humanity amidst brutality and it's conderable daring Alfonso Cuarón's thrilling effort stands amidst few peers in the history of cinema.

Good movie about a rather depressing future which we can all hope won't come true. All happiness seems top have been drained from this world without children. Clive Owen turns in a great performance as a man who's lost both his wife and child and no longer holds any hope for the future.

Is this foreseeing the future? If you do look at the statistics of population growth by only birth, you'll see why this movie happened. This might be a wakeup call to keep our environment safe for the future generation. I liked the deep message in this movie. I think we should all watch this movie for that.
