This movie felt real. The acting isn't always seamless, but often I was unaware that I was watching a movie. Also, the movie's topic is important and timeless--how lives are changed by war and place, and choices. You really have to appreciate reality, sensitivity and patience to like this beautiful film.

I liked Water and Walk on Water better, but enjoyed this movie as well. Worth seeing,.

A great movie. I was struck by the simplicity of the storytelling where there are no special effects, no overpowering musical scores, but instead great intense acting and a wonderful script which reveals itself slowly but steadily towards its climactic ending. It was touching and contained a social message about war and its survivors that is most topical for this age. Oh and the lead actress was enchanting. Go see it. It is a movie that will stay with you for a long time.

This is by far the most genuine approach to story telling... the kind where you leave the theatre and keep discovering new things that connects the story hours later. The cast is amazing... Tim Robbins does an outstanding performance, Sarah Polley assumes one of the most difficult identities on screen, and manages to dominate the screen with her presence. This is an excellent movie... one of the best I've seen in the past 2 years.

This movie is a great success. The screenplay is a marvel, and the actors are all unbelievable (that is VERY believable! ) The emotional charge of this movie is high voltage. You are lead from the depths of human misery to the redemption of love. The film-making is masterful, full of foreshadowing and metaphor. The esthetic is disturbing but perfect: the expanse of the ocean is juxtaposed with the mechanical brutality of an oil platform. If this movie gets seen, as it should, there will be Oscar buzz for Polley and Robbins (if there is any justice in this world)

Sarah Polley plays an Oscar winning role as Hanna, the factory nurse. There is hope for war trauma victims, but if God exist, why so much suffering, why? A must be seen by any serious film buff.
