The Midas Touch is the Kiss of Death for an artist. I'm not sure whether Woody Allen was ever an artist, but now that everything he touches istreated as gold, it's clear he has nothing to keep him on his toes. This is an awful film. Badly written, badly acted, badly directed. The idea of doing the same basic elements as a comedy and as a tragedy might, justmight, have been something more than a gimmick if something creative had actually been done with it; but it was all just a series of Woody Allen sit-com set-pieces. The actors are coached to imitate WA's mannerisms -- helped out by the increasingly stereotyped, dreary and predictablelines he usually utters during all the gesticulating and whining: this was all good once, for a while, when it was fresh. But recycledby a crew of somewhat amateurish WA impersonators? It is also a notaltogether self-conscious send-up of all the elements of the pretentiouspseudo-culture and pseudo-intellectuality that some of the older WA workwas ambiguous enough (and funny enough) to leave us thinking might havebeen done by someone at least capable of discerning the real thing. But how many more films like this will it take (there have already been too many) to confirm definitively that WA is and has always been just a gifted comedian, not a thinker, not an artist? [...]

One of Allen's better recent films, although still horribly compromised, largely by the actors who are completely talentless. When Will Ferrell is the standout of a dramatic picture you know you need better actors.

Dialogue heavy and the dialogue wasn't very good. People don't talk like that. Some of the actors were good, like Will Ferrel and Rhada Mitchell, but I could here her Australian accent sometimes which was distracting. It was like watching a play, which to me is not what a movie should be like.

Even a sub-par Woody Allen movie is better than most crap out there, and this is a perfect example of a good movie by a great director. Still worth seeing for the laugh, even if it is predictable and somewhat fake.

Allen's best in years. If you are a fan you'll love it. On par with Crimes and Misdimeanures.

Anyone who says that Woody Allen can't make movies anymore is out to lunch. I think Allen is making his best pictures now, not twenty or thirty years ago. What I like about Melinda and Melinda is the way Allen shows the viewer how he can use either comedy or tragedy to tell a compelling story. Allen knows his craft so well, with this picture he clearly shows off his creativity and prowess for filmmaking. Two stories in one picture, each only getting half the time available but both richer and fuller than many stories that don’t have to compete for screen time.

A true masterpiece, anyone who thinks Woody is fading in age, will be corrected in this great film.

This was by far the best Woody Allen film I have seen in a long time. Truly intriguing story and manner to tell it. If you liked the concept behind "Sliding Doors" you will love this film. Great idea for a movie. The only slight fault may lie in the acting but alas the whole concept warrants the manner in which this was done. Great film.

Finally another Woody Allen film. One a year is not enough in my book. Too bad we can't get one every six months. What a simple idea is Melinda and Melinda, which turns out into a captivating, funnier than tragic story. The acting is superb with a few lines and gestures mimicking Woody Allen so well that you almost can bear it that he’s not acting in it as well. Bravo for yet another thoughtful movie.

I think this is the best Woody Allen film in years - a return to the quality of his early masterpieces. The acting, especially by Radha Mitchell as the two Melindas, is excellent. The comedy scenes made me laugh out loud, and the tragedy scenes were surprisingly effective. I agree that the characters in the tragedy storyline had more depth than the comedy storyline, but I think that worked to the movie's advantage. Also, I loved Will Ferrell. This was a unique chance to see him in a more "grown-up" movie.

With weak characters and poor dialogue this movie is a must miss. The only saving grace is Will Ferrel's natural wit- he prevented my from leaving after the first fifteen minutes. I saw it for free, and I wish I had kept my passes for a different film.

Very weak movie although a good idea. Characters lacked any real depth and the main character was not really believable. I failed to see the transition from comedy to tragedy, it was not apparent in the acting other than from Will Ferrell, but lets face it folks, that is what he does!! All in all quite slow paced and forgettable.

The muses said "Great concept, Woody. Now make the comedy comic, and the tragedy tragic". Woody missed that part. I love his work anyway.
