It was good and funny. Great performances by the lead actors.

I really enjoyed this movie. Perhaps it's because I like dysfunctional-family movies because it makes my life look normal! However, the acting was good and there were moments when I laughed and cried and that's all that I ask out of a movie. It really made me think too. If you're into a good drama, get this one.

I would not recommend this film. This movie should not be billed as a comedy, there is no comedy. Instead it is depressing and very slow. The plot was basic and seemed to be missing something. The film does address an important issue, but not in an effective way.

One of the best family dramas I've ever seen (possibly the best, far better than Squid and the Whale) The lead performances are Sooo good! I have a sister and I totally get Linney and Hoffman's interactions. Terrific. I didn't find it as funny as others but I really appreciated the drama of the film. Dealing the old age and such. Most definitely recommended.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] I sometimes wish Laura Linney would play her socially neurotic women with a slightly deeper third dimension to them. Nonetheless, this is an emotionally deftly controlled movie (by the pacing in the editing) and two very fine performances from Laura and especially Phillip S-H who nails the tenor of his character so well. Tough in parts, depending on your own personal familial experience, but rewarding in its honest portrait.

I was disappointed. It was long and slow, yes there was some good acting and yes some parts of the script were quite clever, unfortunately as a package it was just ok.

A good comedy on a difficult subject matter. Linney & Hoffman play off well together. At times cute, funny, tragic and sensitive. Worth 7½ or 8.
