This is a smart movie and makes you think, great actors... well made but I thought the ending was too abrupt.

A nice small inspirational movie about cynism and faith. Worth seeing.

2 conversations and a funeral... I have decided based on this movie that the world would be a better place if Robert Redford gave up directing.

I'm not sure why some see this movie as a Conservative recruit film. It in no way suggests that. Its message is simply to pay attention to your government and to take action to make change. It definitely does not recommend enlisting as the chosen form of that action. Two of the characters enlisted but that was their choice. Redford's character even went as far as to disuade that choice. Given that, I did think the message was too much in the forefront and you were beaten over the head with it. A little subtlty would've been appreciated... but I still liked it. Too short at 90 minutes. Could've used that time to really expand on the issues and dilemnas that each character faced.

Well... not too much actions but the movie is trying to pass a very meaningful message to its audience. Not so bad. Was not displeased. It's worth watching even though it might not be a WOW movie...

This movie makes you reflect on a few things. Apathy amongst young white people. But maybe that apathy is due to the fact that the baby boomer generation has ruled egoistically for so long and has grabbed everything for itself. And Tom Cruise's character says that NATO isn't helping in Afghanistan. What the? What about Canada and the Netherlands? Hopefully the next administration will be less foolish...

It boggles my mind that there are no demonstrations against the War, as there were during the Vietnamese War. For your own sake and that of your children, rise up American public!!!

I liked it but definitely not my favorite. They could have done so much more with this movie. I felt like this movie was only created to sell the fact of being in the army (which doesn't usually bug me but this time it pushed it a bit too much)but overall not bad.

Had it's good parts, but on the whole, was self-serving, American propaganda... wasn't sure if it took itself seriously or not, if it did... whoa!

If you believe Hollywood incapable of a good political war film, at least while that war is still going on, this film won't change your mind. If this is supposed to be a critique of the Iraq-Afghanistan war, thanks, but it's too timid and muddled to do the job. The three sub-plots (Senator/Journalist interview, Professor/Student interview, and HQ/Field operation), which each take up about one-third of the action, are intercut but barely interwoven. The Professor (Actor-Director Robert Redford) seemed unable to make sense of his lines (and I can't blame him); Arian (Derek Luke) and Ernest (Michael Peña) were convincing as actors, but the script has them making decisions that require much more development and agonizing to make them believable. The nub of the story could have been the confrontation between the journalist (the ever-intense Meryl Streep) and her editor, but that, too, was truncated. Don't quite know what to say about the senator (Tom Cruise); he fails at the admittedly impossible task of making viewers believe the film's fatuous premise that a senator, even a West Point-trained Republican, would actually be running the war solo, hands-on at tactical level. Even the battle action, most of which was literally filmed in a fog, wasn't particularly compelling."Lions for Lambs" makes no sense and there was no excuse for releasing it. If you're looking for a big-studio take on current real-world conflicts that has some thought behind it, you could try "In The Valley of Elah" or, better yet," The Kingdom" but definitely give this one a miss.

This movie smells more like a documentary... but a GOOD one for sure. It tries to stay entertaining, but it's purpose is clear, it encourages us to get involved in politics and not let our country's governments get away with foolish things just because we sit quietly. It's about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and all the political garbage that we have been hooked into believing to justify what has been done in those wars. Help us God.

I was disappointed in this film. Three stories, not really connected, long and boring. Not recommended.

This movie was so short I hardly finished my popcorn. Parts with Tom and Meryl was well done but the army part was what I was waiting for. More action was needed. Also the scenes with Redford were pretty boring.

Not up to the standards of any of the actors. Reminded me of a high school play that was designed to have preach to us that war is bad. It wasn't entertainment, it was a message.

Boring, only good part is it is short. If it had not ended suddenly, I was about to enlist just to get away from the movie.

Excellent film presenting the ongoing debate in America over whether to support the troops or withdraw from the War in Afghanistan and Iraq. Great direction, editing and acting, near perfect framing of the problem. Told in real time the viewer comes to realize that while we are all debating the moral value of war or the political strategies of war real men are dying. IT is time to stop the debate and take action, either support the war all the way and give the troops the tools to win or get out, but it is time to take a stand and stop the bleeding.
