A good movie to see for those who like Eliade's books and are familiar to reading between the lines/symbolic thinking. The movie is filled with symbols and takes on major philosophical thems: meaning of life, time, religion, love, work etc. Asks for a second viewing, though... Good directing, good image, good acting.

The movie start strong with an interesting plot and Coppola at the helm. But the movie start going in different direction part mystery, drama and thriller. To be honest I don't know how feel, the movie didn't left me a lasting impression but I won't discourage my friends to see it...

I am not sure how I feel about this movie. I didn't hate it, I didn't get it. Is it really just about someone's madness? Or am I just not smart enough to get it?

Coppola is a great director, don't get me wrong but... this film had a potential to be better than what it was period. I felt like the pace of the film was simply slowing down as I think Roth is a great actor but the film started to feel longer and longer. I had high hopes for it by being aware of what critics had said about it in a negative fashion. Perhaps if Coppola would change the ending and bring the pace a little higher all would have had been amazing. Anyways, this is worth a watch but don't expect anything amazing as this is simply an OKAY movie.

Master-filmmaking from one of America's greatest talents. This is his best movie since 'Apocalypse Now.' The acting is terrific, the cinematography is unbelievable, the editing (as always, Mr. Murch) is too good to be true, and Coppola's skills as a director are applied with full force. Some critics have charged it with pretension; I know where they're coming from, but I can't agree. This film is smarter than that.

The lovers of "fast food" movies [...] may not like this profound, philosophical masterpiece. It is not for them. Coppola proves once again his genius.

It is a mix of English patience and Matrix. It is hard to say if this movie is science fiction or only a maddness of a person.
