It was pretty good. It portrayed the life of Jane Austen in a realistic and upbeat way.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] This was a touching, romantic, sad, ultimately tragic story of the life of one of the greatest authors of all time, Jane Austen. Although very little of her real life is known, the little that survived was put together in this lovely little film. Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy are both brilliant and their chemistry is palpable. Knowing that Jane Austen never marries and spends her life living anonymously obviously means that this movie does not have a happy ending. It shows, however, that through the tragedy of her real life, Ms. Austen was able to bring to life characters that will live on eternally, and was able to give most of them the happy ending she never got.

For everyone who likes Jane Austen at all, this movie is a great way to get to know the author's inspiration. The actors are great, always like James MacAvoy.

If you heard the story, it's nothing special. But if you go to see this movie, you will cry.

It was rather boring in the beginning and I did not really enjoy it, I spent the rest of the movie cuddling and not paying attention to it. That is the last time that I go to a movie without knowing anything about it. Same with who I went with.

I'm a huge Jane Austen fan, and I found this movie lacking in intensity. James McAvoy was memorable and intriguing, but the rest of the cast seemed insipid and uninspiring.

I was disappointed in this movie. The acting is fine, Hathaway looks lovely - the whole film looks lovely. But I found no chemistry between Hathaway and McAvoy. In fact, I didn't find much appealing about his character and thus didn't understand why Jane would be so taken with him. A much better film in the same vein is Pride and Prejudice (Keira Knightley version)

This movie is so amazing, it touched my heart. I think this movie is more for women, which is a must see movie. I saw it already 2 times and desire to see it again and again!

A great film. I was suspicious at first, not knowing whether Anne Hathaway could carry a film like this, but she is perfectly lovely. The real life story of Jane Austen's life plays like a revision of Pride and Prejudice, in which the young Austen plays all the Bennett sisters. I loved it.

This is my second review of 'Becoming Jane.' At the prompting of a friend who truly enjoyed the film I saw it again. He was right. I was wrong. My first review failed to appreciate the romantic depth of Anne Hathaway's Jane, the costumes, period sets and gorgeous cinematography. I encourage you to give this film a second try. It is most enjoyable when one drops the critical eye a bit and enjoys the great literary master as a vulnerable lover.

I wasn't sure if I really wanted to see yet another Jane Austen story, but I gave it a try anyway. I was actually surprised at how much I got into it. I found Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy captivating in their roles. Actually, I thought everyone was great, as was the screenplay. It may not be a masterpiece, but I enjoyed it and think it was worth seeing. I do however, question its likeness to Pride and Prejudice (I think this story was most like her novel Persuasion)

True it is a chick flick but that's what it's supposed to be. A very sweet movie overall and I thought very romantic and dramatic. The acting was excellent.
