Showed some good African American history, which should make us Whites cringe. Well done and worth the watch. Not an action thriller, but a great story.

Let me start off by saying that Denzel is my favorite all-time actor BUT beside that point this is an AMAZING movie that has you laughing , crying and feeling every other emotion you can feel during a movie. Not only is this movie insprirational it is educational and one delivered by the riveting performances of the likes of Denzel Washington and Forrest Whitaker.

While we were waiting for the movie we paid for to start, we walked into this movie... and did not leave. Didn't even know this movie existed. Forrest Whittaker is amazing... he makes you forget you're in a theatre. This movie is about black oppression in the 1930's, but from a fresh perspective. Based on a true story of a fantastic teacher who is the head of the debating team at a black Texas college. Don't miss it!

I like D. Washington's movies, but I didn't enjoy this movie at all.

Yes, Denzel does it again. But that's not news. Two of the 4 debators are new and upcoming talent... they help the two great actors (Whitaker and Washington) make this a film to remember. Great scene after scene, powerful performances by most, even though the girl in the group had trouble with her accent, her average performance could not bring down all the others. An inspirational, must see film!

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] An inspirational movie based on a true story demonstrates that even in the mist of fear and oppression humans come overcome and succeed. Having lived in the in the US it doesn’t feel that long ago that we were taught to call the police if we saw any black people in our neighborhood and at public places there were white only water fountains. So I find it strange to hear a comment that movies of this type are no longer relevant. Mark D.

Wow, how can you not be engaged in the intensity of Denzel and Forrest in this movie? Surely the fighting spirit of youth gets you to believe once again in the realness of dreams and that obstacles can be overcome even in the least likely of circumstances. Definitely a movie to see for those looking to believe in the impossible and to learn of the challenges that others have faced in this world.
