DVD: "The Gift (Widescreen Collection)"
This is a VERY made for TV movie. Which is surprising just because Cate Blanchett is such an excellent actress. But the movie never rises above mediocrity and you figure out the ending half way through the movie. Watch out for a couple of nude scenes with Katie Holmes.

This is my all-time fave! Just enough spine tingle and suspence to keep you on your toes for most of the film. Yet another awesome performance by Cate; her and Giovanni are perfect together!! If you liked them in this movie, I highly reccomend "Heaven." Supperb.

This is truly an amazing movie. Very different from the rest. Its filled with suspense, a kinda edge-of-your-seat-thriller. But what I'm most interested in the movie is the Country Group that played 3 fantastic numbers. The first one was "My Sentimental way"; the 2nd and the 3rd, I don't know. I would be very grateful if someone could give me information about that group or information where I could find those songs, or lyrics to those songs etc... I would very much appreciate it. [...] Thankyou very much.

Okay, Cate Blanchett and Greg Kinnear are the true stars of this movie, but one of the only reason why I wanted to see it in the first place is because Keanu Reeves was in it as a mean SOB... which is very unlike this usually caring, thoughtful, quite serious, action/suspense playing popular star! After I watched it, I had to see it again, it was then, and only then that I realized the "good guy" actor can be intensely and convincingly mean, and noticeably quite conceited! Of course, if you actually 'liked' seeing Keanu mean and ugly (sorry..) go rent The Watcher... ;)

Creepy, very creepy. Keeps you on the edge on a few occasions, but generally you never know what's going to happen, however you might predict the ending at one point.

I can't wait for this movie to go on sale! If you haven't seen 'The Gift' you are missing out on the movie of the year!

Interesting movie that slowly captures the audience. The characters make you feel interested in what happens to them. A little bit on the slow side but entertaining. Worth seeing but perfect as a video rental. No need for big screen experience.

This movie was very entertaining till the end... Mr. Reeves did a great job acting as well as Miss Blanchett. The story was for itself so...so... But still a good thriiller...

I expected this movie to be a supernatural experience. Instead, it is basically the same who-dunnit formula used over and over again. The outcome is quite predictable. But Cate Blanchet is pretty amazing, and the film itself is still entertaining.

Sam Raimi finally takes his place up there with Hitchcock, Scorcese, and Ridley Scott as a genius director with this clever tale of murder and supernatural power.

Up until the cliche american ending, this movie is superb. The only thing that could have been better would have been to have more suspects for the whodunnit suspense. Predictability is the only flaw... But the acting and the images, the music and the film are good!... I recommend!

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] At first I thought that was just a detective story or a scary movie - but it is not! The "gifted" woman, Annie, is a conflicted character, blaming herself for her husband's death and unable to forgive herself or seek forgiveness... And then there is a series of horrific events, thanks to which she evolves. Nothing is at it seems to be... devils are in angel's disguise and the most uncontrollable man, half-mad and living in total denial is actually her best Buddy... And it's not too important whether you figure out what really is going on (of course the more surprised you are-the bigger fun), but it's the question whether SHE will be able to... and she had better not... In the end, she finally receives forgiveness, a clean handkerchief, a "carte blanche" form another world that finally seems to disperse her guilt and clear her sky (the last scene of the movie - wonderful... ) In that aspect the movie reminds me a bit of the Sixth Sense, but there is one very important difference that makes it worth seeing. When the mystery is about to be solved - there are these spinning images and in Annie's eyes the reality mixes with visions - suddenly the spectator feels as if some part of these ESP abilities is transferred to them ("Oh my God! I see it! It's... ") and this is a SMASHING experience. And Katie Holmes is OK, but Cate Blanchett is so spiritually attractive - I really wanted to take her head in my hands and kiss her tears...

I enjoyed this film immensely. Might be a little slow-paced for some but the payoff by the end of the film is well worth it. A well-crafted film overall and great performance by Cate Blanchett who trades in her British accent for a Southern drawl and quite effectively. I was impressed by Sam Raimi's directing skills. I associate his name over the top fare but this was a tasteful effort on his part. Well worth seeing if you enjoy thrillers or films that deal with the supernatural.

If this is life in the U.S. South, I'll stick to Canada, ouch. Very good, but a little violent. A gift is sometimes a curse. I thought it a bit predictable at times, and the characters somewhat cliched, but still a good thriller. Keanu Reeves plays a not-so-nice man a little too well.

I very much enjoyed this movie and it simply shows that a "gift" is not always a "blessing". Also, there's an expression in Spanish that translated means: The only time you ever really know somebody is after you've eaten two tons of salt with him at the dinner table. Until the last minute you would never suspect who the killer really is...

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] The Gift had some good performances (even Keanu) although his character had the emotional range of a rabid dog. I found this movie's biggest problem was the simplistic storyline (at least it had one). In fact I pegged Kinnear the killer right off the bat, very predictable and that ruined the suspense for me. I like the slow pace which helped draw you in but the payoff was not a great gift.

"The Gift" was craftly made. It will keep your attention thanks to camera angles & a good story line. Not extremely scary, but it does have its moments. It is worth watching on the big screen as opposed to renting it at home. This film will entertain.

Wait, wait, wait! Closure? The ending brings closure? That's pretty much my only beef with the film, no closure. It was obvious that a shocking ending was coming, and it did, but not explained! Fine if you believe in psychics, that's what the movie is going for, but placing that above physics... I can't buy.

Only problem I had with the movie was the ending, it was mildly predictable and dragged on for longer than it should have. It's scary, but not Exorcist scary, more like sudden gunshot scary. Performances were very refreshing, all across the board. My opinion, wait til cheap night, but go see it. It's the kind of movie that'll scare you more in the theatre than at home.

I think Sam Raimi did an excellent job directing this movie. It has to be one of my favourites of the year. It kept me at the edge of my seat, and provided great closure at the end. There are some resemblances to What Lies Beneath, but The Gift is much more realistic. The pacing was excellent and I would definitely see it again.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] This story is weak, thin, and predictable. Sure, the acting may be good and the execution decent, but who cares? There's not much of a story -- if you've seen "What Lies Beneath", you've seen this movie.

What can I say, it's not for everyone, but I loved it. Spooky/psychic themed movies have always been a favorite, and while it wasn't the Sixth Sense, it was pretty close. The acting was wonderful on all parts; you couldn't expect any less from the likes of Hilary Swank and Cate Blanchett, and the rest of the cast certainly rose to the occasion. One highlight was the fact that Katie Holmes was finally able to shed the nagging 'good-girl Joey Potter image' from her work on the series 'Dawson's Creek. ' Most of her previous movies have essentially come across as Joey Potter in a costume, but in 'The Gift, ' she portrays a snotty, rich Southern girl with a 'reputation, ' and she's very convicing. No more sweet little girl from the teenage drama. In any case, this is definitely a film worth seeing. A great movie!

Surpisingly good acting from such people as Holmes which everyone is used to seeing as a innocent little teenager on Dawson's creek. Reeves gave a very good performance also. And last but not least the movie was incredible.

The movie has its ups and downs. You are stressed out at certain points in the movie, but it's predictable. There is a mistery to solve, and I saw it coming a mile away. Half way thru the movie, I knew what was coming, and I was right at the end. Maybe I'm a psychic also?

I saw the movie last night and it was good because everybody was so convincing. Cate is terribly good and Katie Holmes surprising (I'm used to watch her weekly on Dawson's Creek) and not last GIOVANNI is excellent... the story is not extraordinary but good, go see it!
