You have to be none too bright to say that the effects were less than stellar. Magnificent Desolation is about REALITY, not an action flick. Every American should see this movie and pay their respects for the many folks (not just the Apollo 1 crew) who gave their lives for the Apollo Program. Mr. Hanks should be congratulated. He has added another feather in his cap of framing the Apollo Program. Simply the greatest achievement of mankind.

There are only few moments of 3-D in this movie yet the glasses hurt your eyes. I would recomend this movie to people with good vision and people with a boring attitude.

I've read some of the other critics and it seems to me some were expecting a Sci-Fi movie. Folks, reality is not an action movie. This movie shows how we reached the Moon and is the closest one can come to walk on our Moon short of being there. With "Magnificient Desolation", Tom Hanks adds to his "From the Earth to the Moon" HBO miniseries in preserving a record of one of the gradest human achievement in human history. To me, walking on the Moon show our civilization at its best. If we can make the journey to the Moon and back, then there isn't anythig we cannot do.

It was nice as a documentary. I guess the main aim was to inspire young Americans by what their predecessors had done. I really love how young women, in particular, were encouraged to aspire for greater heights through the movie. However, it is so sad that through the movie, they did not try to inspire the black child. Of all the children interviewed, none of them was black. It's so painful that the only place a black person was shown was in the context of prehistoric man as if the other races were never backwards at some time in history. I can see how some movie makers use movies to try to reinforce an inferior complex in the black child instead of trying to inspire them as they did for the women. As a 3-D movie, I agree, it is not so great. It had too many 2-D scenes.

What a waste of time and money. The effects are not at all impressive and the narration of Tom Hanks is boring.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Despite what some folks have said here, this *is* a good 3D movie, with some wonderful views of a simulated moon-scape and some great stories about the beginning of our exploration in the Apollo missions. No - there isn't anything blowing up with bits of them flying out at you in vivid "Better duck or you'll get hit" 3D wonder. No - nobody dies due to exposure. Nevertheless there's an inspiring quality to the film that makes it well worth the 45 mins.

Don't waste your money. This movie is not 3D. It is only documentary. Very poor movie... :(.

A pretty poor showing for an IMAX-3D presentation. Only 45 minutes long and a lot of it wasn't in real 3-D at all. If you want to see IMAX-3D, wait for the return of Polar Express this Christmas. It's extraordinary!

Very disappointing film and a real waste of 3-D technology. We found it to be a very few interesting images, a lot of dull and repeated images and a great deal of pro-American hero-worship propaganda with an occasional tidbit of worthwhile information thrown in here or there. Don't waste your money on seeing this.

The superb Imax 3-D realism makes this a must-see for anyone who wishes they could visit the Moon. It brings to life the vastness and strangeness of the Hadley Rille and surrounding mountains. Even as a TV documentary it would be good, as it's well narrated and shows little-known footage.

I don't like it, polar express is much better than this one, this one is short and boring. I fell asleep during the movie.
