Great movie! I’ll admit it was a little slow, but I found the idea behind the story to be amazing. Crazy to see what the main actress was willing to do to prepare for what she needed to do to sell her role in the movie. The sex scene was over the top, I wouldn’t expect something like that in a main stream movie (but glad it was their) you could feel connected with the emotions in some of the scenes, it was amazing!

I had to watch this movie 3 times... not because I didn't understand it, but every time I watched, I found new surprise. Sometimes on the background of the scenes, sometimes on the faces of the actor and actress. I cried every time on the scene that Wang singing for Yee in the Japanese restaurant, and the ending. I always like Tong, but this time just fell in love with him...

The dark side of love... See it, but careful: it's not a feel good movie. Not because of how sad it is, but because it's unsettling. Shanghai, 1942. Four privileged Chinese women are playing mahjong at a furious pace. What else are the bored wives of businessmen and government officials to do? Mr Yee, the husband of the group's senior member, returns home, perhaps from a meeting with the Japanese occupiers with whom he collaborates. Mrs. Mak, the youngest of the four women, remembers she has an urgent appointment concerning her husband's business. Mrs. Yee offers her the use of her car and driver. She goes to a coffee shop and makes a phone call. A long secret conspiracy is coming into play. The scene shifts to four years earlier in Hong Kong. We see Mrs. Mak is really Miss Wong Chia Chi, a young student left behind when her father emigrated to England. Chia Chi joins a student theater company who put on shows to raise money for the anti-Japanese cause. But Kuang, the idealistic young man leading the company, wants to contribute action, not just money. They decide to assassinate a leading collaborator from Shanghai recently escaped to Hong Kong, Mr. Yee. Chia Chi is to become his mistress and lure him into a trap, so she sacrifices her virginity to the Chinese cause. But what does she love? The cause? Playing the part of a rich woman? Is it the sex? Or does she love one man? Is it Kuang? Is it Yee? Whatever it is, the answer is not easy to uncover and Chia Chi must play out her role to the end to find out.

It is a must see film. Like Hamlet, ‘He who hesitates is lost. ’ In the inner mind of the main actress, Tang Wei, who were struggling of whether to kill not to kill the traitor because she fell in love with him, which not only made her forgot her mission, but also sacrificed her own life and that of her compatriots who participated in the mission. Many people have complained that the movie is too long; however it is not. If the movie were less than 100 minutes, it would be too short to develop some details of what happen during that particular period, of why those students wanted to assassinate the intelligent chief, and of why at last they failed after several unsuccessful attempts. Many Hollywood films are even longer than this one such as The Lord of the Ring, Titanic, Pearl Harbour, and the Patriot, to name a few. Why don’t they say they are too long? I think it is because they viewed the movie in either English or French version and have not completely understood it, and because they do not even understand the Chinese history and culture…

At the end of 'Lust, Caution' I walked out onto the street and felt like I was moving more slowly, making less noise, noticing new details. Ang Lee is a master film-maker capable of creating a movie in which every still tells a complete story and that would be worth framing and hanging. Truly exquisite. Indeed, I can point to no flaws in production. And, the story is a vital one; I know of no other stories set during the Japanese occupation of China, nor concerning a young woman set to use her sexuality -- and soft, surprising love -- to trap the enemy. But, it is cold, and there is little to redeem some of the characters, nothing to comfort the audience in the end.

Another great movie by Lee. I was delightful surprised by Tang Wei's acting, as a new actress her acting is fluent and passion. Great movie!

An emotional rollercoaster that kept me engaged throughout the entire movie. Realities of war, relationships, survival exquisitely told. Another Ang Lee masterpiece!

Very good movie. Maybe it is true that if you conquer a man's stomach, you conquer the man and if you conquer a woman's vagina, you conquer the woman. That explains that on the critical moment, the girl saved the life of the traitor to China and destroyed ownself. Diamond works. Same like money talks.

The story is rough and not so fluent in this movie, it was like watching a show instead of movie, I wondered why it became so famous, people are still attracted by China at the old times.

I almost walked out of this one; I was tired and the sub-titles where too fastidious for me. After battling fatigue (even loosing my contact lens in the theatre), I stayed, and I am glad I did. From now on, Asian films are to be reckoned with, because this one is an epoch movie, which isn’t that easy to realise. I didn't know much about the Japanese occupation of China during the 2nd world war, only that China lost many, many lives. Getting back to the movie, it has intrigue, explicit sex scenes and some gory action, but above all, it is a drama. I am glad I stayed... and I found my lens at the end of it all!
