Tom Hanks is simply one of the best actors alive. He took an otherwise uninteresting piece of CNN type storyline and made it into something more appealing to the general audience. He made it into a movie worth seeing.

Very good movie. Tom Hanks and Julie Roberts are always worth watching. Phillip Seymore Hoffmans' performance takes this from a "worth seeing" to a "don't miss it" movie.

A great mix of entertainment and important (and relevant) information. I like how the current situations in Iraq and Afganistan push at the back of your mind while you watch the film. As much as I liked Hanks' performance, I think it's Philip Seymour Hoffman who really takes the cake with an AWESOME performance. That being said, I don't see why the Award shows are giving this film so much attention. It's fun but it's really nothing special. Especially Julia Roberts' performance. What's the big deal?! It's an important story to tell because this is common U. S. foreign policy (supplying weapons and cash to the enemies of the enemies of the U. S.) I like (sincerely, not sarcastically) how the film avoids mentioning that Osama Bin Laden's group was one of the factions funded by Charlie Wilson. The long-term ramifications of this type of foreign policy should be obvious and hopefully avoided in the future. Anyway, it's a movie worth seeing but not worth owning.

This a great example f neo-conservative propaganda, exactly what created the contemporary mess. See the actual events and their connection in the BBC documentary "The Power Of Nightmares" It's available on Google. Can't believe Tom Hanks would star in this.
