I never had the intention of actually going to see this movie, but I had to because the others in my family wanted to see it. However, I was a bit surprised. It wasn't cheesy and lame like I expected it to be, and the acting was good. Not much character development went on and some of the characters were extremely annoying. Good for the kids, better for a rental.

To elaborate, I would have given it a zero, if that had been an option. The idea was very unintelligent, there was absolutely no planning, and the acting was very poor, maybe slightly exaggerated as well. Please feel free to agree or disagree with me... that is... after you've seen the movie!

Generally I am not very interested in movies that reiterate historical facts, however, because of the movie's mixture of history, mystery, fantasy and the allure of watching the relationships develop, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. My nephew (12) came with me and he enjoyed it very much. I would say that some of the intonations and reality/gore about war would not be suitable for the younger children - so beware. It was well made and endearing.

It's a cute and good family movie, take the children out! The role-play isn't perfect and the story line seemed 'forced', but otherwise, see it; for 'kid' in you!

Excellent family movie. Both parents and two sons, 8 and 10 years of age loved it. The only movie we saw at the theatre this past year; worth seeing on the big screen!

Not bad, however, I believe that our very own Canadian creature of the deep could proverbially "kick it's ass"!!! Please pass my feelings to the studio that a sequel pitting these 2 beasts of the ocean against eachother would revive this lack-lusture franchise from it's present watery grave. I also failed to see the relevance of a film such as this not containing any monkeys interacting with the creature. Let's face it, they would have had fun!!! Remember, Monkeys sell movies... why does nobody get this anymore, I mean look at King Kong, one really big one and everybody's happy!! Fish.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
Much like Pan's Labrynth in its deliberate structure -- an unhappy child, absent a father, in an unhappy time (both were in war time) who journeys to a magical world. But I think you need to make up your mind when you do something like this -- either it's for kids or it isn't. Thus I think it was a little too intense for children at some points and a little too silly for adults at others. And I couldn't get myself to play either role continuously as an audience member because it kept jumping back and forth. At least with Pan's Labrynthe you could stay an adult viewer -- the magical aesthetics were appealing to a mature mind, and the child's psychic orientation was meaningfully positioned amidst them. Here you've got a kid racing underwater on the back of a flippered dinosaur at about sixty knots without even a rein. So you just kept zinging back and forth between children's fantasy and adult dynamics. And the adult dynamics were boring when they didn't need to be. They had, for example, an interesting dimension with the tension between the Scottish laborer and the English soldier -- one that is representative of Scottish/English tensions for centuries. But the resolutions for this were underdone. The English soldier was properly disposed as a character to do things that are immoral in the name of morality. But he never did. At the last moment he always chose to be a generic figure, for example, when he learns that the laborer might be regarded as a hero (which would give rise to ressetiment in a character such as the Brit who had been reassigned from the front) Also it was a tepid resolution between them when he asked the Scottsmen to man the PT boat. So as I say, if they had stuck to a kiddie genre they might have made a nice movie. And if they had stuck to something adult they could have made an interesting movie. Instead they tried to skate right down the middle so they made a movie that is only watchable, perhaps ultimately for the great images of the Scottish lochs.

My friend and I thought it was a great movie! It had all the elements it needed - suspense, drama, laughter, a few areas that were sad (not sad like E.T thank god! I didn't cry in this entire movie, but it came close) Leaving the theatre I was very happy with our choice to view this film. I wasn't disappointed in the slightest!

Some of us never want to grow up when it comes to movies of this kind. These are quality family movies that take your spirit and transports you to another world. In this case a world of a legendary water horse. The movie is excellently made and very entertaining. You walk out of the movie thinking there's nothing wrong with letting your imagination take you away if this is the results you get. This movie is good for all ages, and I mean even the grandparents will get a kick out of it!

It's so dark, underwater. Makes you feel like watching a horror movie. And the loud gunfire noise with darkness makes it uncomfortably bad. Its like I'm watching something like the movie The Host. The beginning wasn't dark but was boring. The end was okay. But the middle. I didn't like.

Just got back from taking the kids (ages 10 & 12) and we all loved it. We almost never went as other posters suggested it was scary. Neither of my kids found it "dark" or "scary" as other posters suggested. There are no war scenes either but the Water Dragon does get shot at near the end. This movie is moving with great special effects. Highly recommended!

A fantastic movie, reminiscent of old Disney classics and childhood afternoons. The acting is strong the characters real, True to an adult there is a certain amount of predictability in the story, this however does not detract from the story or suspense. My daughter loved it as well. In an age where children's movies are dominated by CGI this is a refreshing change. That the "monster" is CGI is incidental not integral to the movie. This one stands on the actors, writers, and cinematographers brilliant work.

The trailers mislead you into thinking this is a sweet, kid-friendly, feel good movie. The movie is very tense and dark and the sea horse becomes terrifying in the last quarter of the movie. Not gentle, family holiday fare. Go see Enchanted instead.
