A sordid, tedious film-- intentionally so-- who challenges the viewer to keep watching as the lead characters (I hesitate to call them 'protagonists') descend into a profound pit of human relationship paralysis. Although Moore's equally pathetic and frightening star turn blows each and every other character off the screen, Savage Grace is essentially a story about her son, played convincingly by Eddie Redmayne, whose life was mostly led at the mercy of her mother's taste for high society and not to mention frequent outbursts & embarassingly childish theatrics. The effect that the script's progression has lies somewhere between devastating and off-putting, though it must be noted that one will frequently ask themselves if there is any purpose to telling this story in cinematic form. The extremely lavish interiors, bad musical score, abrupt flash-forwards and troubling interludes all make for an interestingly trashy melodrama in parts, but not a compelling film as a whole.

I don't understand why people are getting so upset about this movie. Of course, the story is horrible because it caused a scandal!! But it's not like the director is promoting the kind of behavior that these people had... he's just telling the story! Are if you are too easily offended, than don't watch that movie! I'm sure that most people who thought this was offensive keep watching movies made by Woody Allen or Roman Polanski, yet what they did is horrible but as long as people don't see it in a film, it's okay...

Riveting, dark, compelling, with an unparalleled sense of urgency. A must-see for anyone who is open to every possibility in human behaviour.

This movie has some very inappropriate scenes and I don't recommend this movie to sensitive viewers. I do not completely disagree with this movie as it has some positive aspects about it like the complicated family dynamics and mental illnesses. It runs at a slow pace and doesn't really have a story line even though it is a true story.

This was not my choice but we both regretted it. I felt sorry for the elderly couple behind us. I did not know the story and would have preferred not knowing it. Why this movie was made I have not idea. I am surprised that Julianne Morre would even consider doing such a film. Stay away at all costs. Don't even rent it.

I totally agree with the person who gave it 10/10. It is a rare and complex jewel, and on a very different level from all the action filled movies in which the main ingredient is violence, and the story line is good versus evil.

People who say this movie is bad simply don't see the nuance and the irony of this genre. The subtly and the darkness, mixed with an absolute disregard to social conventions makes this movie one of a kind. It puts a new dimension to "blue velvet", and makes "irreversible" look like it was made for amateurs. This movie is a film novelty. The subject matter is for mature and distinctly enlightened palates. Regardless of the bad reviews, this movie is a whole new ball league for movie watchers. People who do not appreciate it cannot see beyond the unconventional subject/theme. They are oblivious to double standards and fail to see how provacative this movie really is. It's a MUST SEE. Taste the rainbow. Its diversity at its highest form.

A sad story that may be distasteful to some, but a masterpiece of a film.

Sick, sick, and sick. I couldn't believe what I was watching, I met a friend of mine much older than myself as I was coming out and she was coming in. ( we are seniors) and she asked me what I thought, all I could say was " sick and demented movie," not light, not humerous, not. Not. Not.

This movie should have, or could have been much better than it is. I was expecting much more to be honest. Considering the disturbing real-life events and people it's based on, I was expecting more drama and a deeper look into this dysfunctional, disturbed, sinister family. Julianne Moore gives an overracted, affected, and I have to say irritating performance as the crazy Barbara Baekeland. The other actors are very good, in particular Redmayne who plays Antony Baekeland, and the brief appearance by Hugh Dancy. The cinematography and stylized look of the film is good, however the story lacks direction and focus. In the hands of a better director I think this movie could've been so much better.

DO NOT see this movie. Save your time and money. What could have been a nice movie was turned into something sick and twisted. I am disgusted that a movie like this was allowed to be made. A sad reflection on what is happening in our society.

The 7/10 most closely describes my experience in spite of having had nothing to do with the Price of admission. Although the acting was superb, the cinematography, spectacular, the wardbrobe, stunning, and the lead actors, quite beautiful, the story was deeply disturbing, more so because I knew that it was true. I feel I would have been wise to forego the viewing of this film. Depravity, treachery, and incest are not subjects that lend themselves easily to be used as entertainment for most movie-goers. I felt deeply uncomfortable for the actors and for myself. Furthermore I felt pity for the poor Baekelands because their poverty was one of spirit.

What a waste of time and money!!! Why did this storyline deserve to be written down? Julianna Moore is the only reason I went to see this movie. Wanted to walk out of it several time but didn't want to disturb the cinema which was full on opening night. I am sure this flop will be off the screens within a week or two. Boring and long.

Brilliantly directed and acted movie. Julianne Moore was fabulous. Tough subject matter but the story was told in an understated manner.

A great example of how parents can make their children, and each other, crazy. Good performances by all, especially both actors who played Tony.

This movie was boring, I felt nothing for the characters, I didn't even understand what the hell the characters were even talking about half the time. I was greatly turned off by the incestuous sex scene which promted me to quickly leave the theater (and no I didn't come back to finish watching this savage waste) The only reason why I didn't give this movie a 1/10 is because I really enjoyed the beautiful classic clothes warn by Julian Moore.

This should be re-titled: "Savage Waste". Meagre script, bad characterizations, and, apparently, no director. My wife and I are avid cinephiles with lenient taste, but please - save your money-MISS THIS ONE!!! Julianne Morrie obviously was in this for a paycheck and nice holiday in Spain. Jeez... we want our 90 minutes back.

This movie is what happens when Hollywood decides to make a european type film and it is great to look at. The subject matter is not for the squeamish. The sad thing is that these things do happen and apparently this is a true story. Julianna Moore is great along with the other cast as well. This is a movie about control and what too much love can do to a person. The film is delivered in style and is a must see for those who like foreign films.

I wonder what compelled this production... while the acting maybe good I still came away feeling that this movie had no business of being made. If I could give a minus score I would.
