This movie was very good. Yes it's very disturbing, and sometimes it goes too far, but that's what makes it so good, keeping in mind that it's only a movie. I definitely recommend this movie, but not to everyone.

Well I thought that this movie was pretty nasty. The first 30 minutes is all tits... The guys like that but I mean common... A little to much for a HORROR movie don't you think? It is pretty gory I have to admit, I mean really, would you like to have your eye burned out of its socket and cut off, have holes drilled in your chest, having your fingers cut off or your achilles ankles sliced off? I don't think so. I remember one of my friends gagging the first time I saw this movie. It isnt amazing... The plot goes very slowly, and it isn't like it has an amazing ending. [...] Even though it isn't the most AMAZING horror movie, I still recommend this movie to people who like these kind of things, and quite frankly I would watch this movie again, but with a pillow. And for those with weak stomachs... If you want to watch this movie, I advise you bring something to throw up in. Yum.

Was really painful... really... And I'm not even talking about the regular movie pain (boring) I would genuinely prefer to get one of my teeth puled that be force to watch it again. It is a masterpiece of torture... Torture to the viewers.

Omg, this movie was really not what I expected... at the beginning, I have to admit, it was a bit "porn-o", but later when the gory scenes came on... whooo! (Altho, my friend's were a bit to chicken to see it, I couldn't see the ending.) :' (.

This movie was awful. It took over an hour to get to the better part, and even that was pretty lame. I would not recommend this movie to anyone. I love a good slasher flick, but this was dragged on way too long and I wsa bored to tears.

My friends got me to watch it yesterday... I hated every second of it. There is a really big gap between fear and disgust. Honestly, whoever directed this has a sick, twisted mind. I mean, who makes a movie about torturing people?!

It has been three days since I've watch Hostel and I still don't know if I enjoyed it. This is not a scary movie. This is a twisted and shocking movie. It is what it is and I don't think it could have been made better. The problem is this movie is not for everyone. It's sick and morally corrupt. The only character with any sense of decency is cruelly tortured and murdered. After that it is hard to cheer for anyone. It must be what watching a snuff film would feel like. That said, the story is original and the effects are top notch. I'm still undecided, but I would definitely recommend it to fans of movies like the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre or the Romero Dead movies.

The reviews for this movie before it came to theatres was the it was supposed to be "so gorey, so scary" I love horror movies, so I went to see it, and I find there was more pornography in this movie than anything else, Saw 1 and 2 was much better.

This is to whoever thinks this movie sucks and thinks that there is too much sex in it. Like really. There only like 5 minutes of it. Most of it is gore though. Horror movies are my fav genre. Saw and saw 2 were better but I still liked it. I luved the gory parts. It sure sends tingles up your spine when you watch it though. The parts where the dude gets his achilles tendes cut ewww that was just damn evil. Boy would it hurt too ouch!

Dragged into this one kicking and screaming, so no, I'm not a horror film junkie and this review is biased from the get go. I hoped it may have been helped by the Tarantino endorsement, but no such luck. Just blood and gore shock crap... and Americans wonder why their society is considered violent. If you really want to get off on people suffering, I suggest you go spend your time at a cancer or AIDS ward and donate you admission money to a needy charity instead.

Very scary in the fact that this could happen to any young backpacker travelling through the European dregs. I thought the way they built it up, and built it up, was very creepy. It keeps you guessing and eventually draws you to a conclusion that is very well thought out. Saw it at the movies - expected a bit more - but was satisfied with the overall outcome.

Hostel is the worst movie that I have seen. I am appalled at the positive reviews that some people have given to this movie. There have been excellent horror movies in the past. This movie is NOT a horror movie. It is about mentally deranged people. It was as if one of my worst nightmares had come true. That someone could actually think that senseless, mindless torture of fellow human beings could actually be viewed as a form of entertainment. Yes, its absolutely true that torture exists in the world. But torture of humans for the purpose of pure pleasure of the torturer and for the person viewing it would mean that movie making has fallen to unexplored depths of depravity. The fact that there have been ardent lovers of this movie means that there exist in our society such people who on the exterior live perfectly normal lives, go to office, come back to their families, but harbour such dark and unmentionable desires in their minds. I am a surgeon and seeing blood and body tissues is a part of my daily routine. But the kind of gore that I visualised was nothing that could be classified as entertainment. I can only hope that there are also sane people who will vouch for the same kind of feeling that I developed after seeing the movie. That could anyone fall to such low levels of mental health as to enjoy seeing others screaming in pain when they are cut, sliced drilled when fully conscious? I can only hope that HOSTEL is banned in my country for a thaetrical release. ( I happened to see it on DVD) Think about it.

I am a horror movie fan like that is my favorite genre of movies... anyways this movie was way better then it was made out to be yes I agree that all the sex was really pointless but when it got to all the gore it was awesome, intense, gory I tell you this critics dont know crap if they give this movie a bad review and no it is not pointless to sit around and watch a girl get her eyes torn out and tourched! Or a guy get his legs drilled. I must say that there are some sick fricken people in this world! But my over all review is 10/10.

I enjoyed this movie, at first I was thrown off thinking did I step into the wrong theatre but it proved me wrong within half an hr. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the fact it showed hey this crap happens some people in this world are messed in the head and do do this kind of thing. You think im wrong think about what Iraqi insurgents have done to hostages or what chectian rebels have done to russians or vice versa. The reason I gave this a 8 and not a ten was because some things it didnt do well there were parts where the camera would zoom right up on the tool that the people would be using and not show reaction from the prisoner. Besides that it was a well done movie it is well worth the money you pay for it.

Okay. Hostel. By Eli Roth. Presented by QT. Some people complained that it was too violent. You do the math. Some people complained that it gave a bad image of Europe. Did Friday the 13th give a bad image of america just because it happened there? In the Horror genre, time and place is a pretext. Same for the romantic comedy: Bridget Jones=Sense and sensibility. Alien=Halloween. Some people complained it wasn't worthy of QT. He didn't make it. He also like surf music. Lets remember his movies were considered sick and twisted when they came out too. His will be the ones remembered, not Seed of Chuck and Saw and the other lame non-gory, non-challenging "horror" movies. Some people complained that there was too much sex for a horror movie. Even though they are both linked, I can understand that horror fans didn't pay 5 bux to see a pair of breasts. However, someone here posted the suggestion that the sex was merely a decoy, to provoke our lust before our violent disgust. I think it's a very intelligent remark, cos all filmmakers play with their audience. And to all of you conservative catholics in disguise, Horror movies have no lessons such as "don't have sex". they merely have conventions such as "sex=death", like all genres. And lets remember that the same people in charge who ban gore, pornography and certain sexual postions in some places of the world (USA for one) are the same people who bomb thousands of innocents in foreign country. Now where's the violence, where's the fith? Is it best for real or is it best on video? People who watch gore movies don't appreciate cruelty more than anyone else. We just get a kick out of the aesthetics of violence, just like everyone else(the matrix is just that), except we ADMIT IT, and we don't care for censorship or the fascism that come from it. So instead of surfing on the "ban this sick fith" wave of puritanism, just remember that everyone has a sense of what's right or wrong, and that people's tastes don't fall into those categories.

I do not undestand why some people that have seen this movie believe it is garbage. I believe this is a movie that can open people's eyes when traveling abroad or even in your own country and be careful what might be going on out there. It really shows how far evil people can go and how capable are those of doing criminal acts against innocent people. Regarding the sex part, I do not think it shows too much sex as it would be in a porn movie, it is nothing out of the ordinary to see some nudity and sex acts, it shows reality! If you like watching movies that make you feel afraid of things that could be real, go and watch it or rent it. I also think it was very well done, I had to close my eyes many times when cruel things were happening.

Scariest movie I have ever seen!!! I loved Saw and Saw II, but they didn't ditrurb me like Hostel. I couldn't sleep the night I watched this movie, and I never have trouble sleeping! I guess it is that much more disturbing because it could be true and happen to anyone travelling. I don't usually like movies in the 90 minute range because they lack substance, but to me it was so intense I actually wanted it to be over sooner. I couldn't take any more!!! Sick, sick, sick movie. 10/10 for me!!!

This movie was just what I was expecting it to be... and on that note, I loved it. The excesive nudity in the beginning was a nice way to ease me into the graphic torture and gore scenes. As for the script... the last thing a horror movie needs to try and do is come across as intelligent by means of dialogue... which this movie shyed away from doing and I'm appreciative of that. Some scenes also managed to hold me in crazy suspense... or maybe it was just disgust? I dunno, but the scene I'm refering to I couldn't even watch the whole thing. I loved this movie. The story, the nudity, the gore. All elements fell into place as far as I'm concerned.

THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! But it is a very good movie. My God, Don't people realize that there's more than one style of good film-making? This is an incredible movie, but it's not always enjoyable. It isn't meant to be. Think of "A Clockwork Orange", "Midnite Express", and yes, "Saw" as well. I found this movie very disturbing at times. It conveys a sense of plausability that makes it seem much more real than other grotesque movies. Don't go to this film to have a good time. I think it's a very well made movie. It will leave an impression. It may give nightmares. My fiancee didn't enjoy it, and I'm a little sorry I took her. I'm glad to have seen it, but it wasn't any fun. The actors, I thought, acted the way people really likely would under such circumstances. I don't want to give away the story, but since you likely know that it's meant to be horrific, I will say that I thought the plot was a "little" far fetched (although possible - there's a lot of sick people in the world) I thought that something similar based on the extraction and sale of human organs on the black market would have been more plausible. Still, truth, after all, really is even stranger than fiction. And you certainly won't fall asleep. I rate it a "ten".

I wouldn't say that this movie was BAD, but according to the reviews I read on it, I expected it to be much more intense. I did get chills, and was pretty disgusting at times. But you really don't see THAT much gore. The first 50 minutes do have a lot of sex-related scenes, which is pretty pointless but it doesn't ruin the movie or anything. Wait to rent this one, it's not really worth the 10$. I would suggest it though... once it's out on DVD :)

I have to say that Hostel was a pretty good movie, if you liked Saw and Saw 2, as I did then you'd like this one. There really isnt as much sex and nudity as people say there is. It was pretty gory, although not as gory as I had expected it to be from all the hype. I thought the one part with the pack of little kids was awesome! When you watch the movie you'll know what I mean. The movie moved fairly fast as well, I never looked at my watch once. The ending was not too bad, it didnt "just end" like some people say it did, but the way it ended left an option for a sequal. It was pretty creepy, makes me never want to go to Europe and stay in Hostels. It also has left me thinking about the movie days later. Go see the movie.

ONE WHOLE HOUR of pure boobs and ass. I came for the gore... if I wanted to see that much sex, I'll rent porn. Last half hour of the movie was okay, only because of the toture and creativity.
