As an aspiring screenwriter I want to say "Thank you", To every single person that brought this script to life. To those who believe in the human spirit and the little stories that are not going to make us all rich and famous. I send you my 195lb (7% body fat only) bear hug. Way to go Mr. McCarthy, Cast (Hiam Abbass, I am in love) and crew.

Amazing movie on many levels. It shows on micro scale the macro impact of letting ourselves/society open up to the 'foreign' to stranger, how on both levels we MAY end up enriched - if we take the time and effort...

What a powerful movie! No action in a Hollywood style, not too many words, yet it masterfully triggers a thunderstorm in the soul. If you’re not up for a deeper meaning of post 9/11 racial profiling, immigration, motherly love, middle age crisis, then at least go see it for its captivating and humorous friendship full of infectious smiles, spiced up with blood boiling drumming. It’s a masterpiece worth every penny! GO SEE IT NOW!

Good movie. Who rated it as a comedy? If this is a comedy what is a tragedy?

The dialogue was interesting and the story was captivating. A great movie one should see if working or among with immigrants.

The visitor is one of the best movies that deals with the issue of post 911 racial profiling in the United States! ; The story is about ordinary people like you and I that are struggling to make a better life for themselves in the land of plenty... But little do they know that the land of plenty is very selective about whom it choses to provide for! ; The movie also succeeds in showing us that human beings are basically very similar to one another all over that huge global village of ours, regardless to their racial or religious background! ; It also reflects on how dark our world has become, not only due to world terrorism but especially due to the fact that it is the same people who are fighting to free the world of terrorism, that are responsible for the creation of it's perpetrators!. Food for thought, isn't it?

So glad I seen a poster advertising this AWESOME MOVIE that portrays the diversity of living in America! The drumming was my favorite and the dynamics of relationships and the power they have to influence another's life had a lasting impression on me. Going back soon to take more friends!

What a touching movie this was... You really feel Walter character coming alive with his new friendship with Zainab & Tarek. But what really touching is how the relationship blossom between Walter and Mouna under the most unlikely circumstances.

Very boring. I fell asleep after the first about 20 minutes. Save your money and see Get Smart or Kit Kittredge.

The movie wraps you up in the lives of these strangers, much like what happens to the main character. You don't even realize when or how, but the other characters become endeared to you. I also loved it because it's set in NY and because the immigration issue is treated so well.

Left one hanging at the end... perhaps a little sad but life is like that. Thought provoking, well done.

Great acting! Thought provoking, sensitive treatment of the illegal alien issue. It's a treat to see a movie about how real life situations affect people and, even better, that doesn't have a non-Hollywood ending. Very worthwhile seeing.

Don't go to this movie if you are expecting a comedy (the stated genre of this movie) Don't go if you require Rambo action to stay interested. Do go if you like character development, great acting, and a non-Hollywood approach to real issues and emotions. I really enjoyed this movie and thought about it for quite some time after seeing it.

Interesting story, good acting BUT I resent the much too blatant political message and predictable characters. Could have been a great movie but missed the mark.

An intelligent movie entirely relevent to a major political problem in the US. The result of zenophobia and the discrimination it brings is tragically recounted in this movie. The US particularly and many other western countries are compounding state crimes in the name of protecting 'non-alien' citizens. The result of this extreme 'protection' led to the subject of Schindler's List. Here we have a modern day Schindler - trying to serve just one injustice. How much history will be repeated as this insular nationalism attracts more fearful voters. This movie deserves some Oscar nominations, is well paced and beautifully acted. Don't miss it.

I didn't think this film was very good. It was sooo slow at times. It's not going to win any oscars. Could have been much better. The theatre was practically empty...

A mediocre movie at best. Achingly slow, not such a good script. Not much of a story line. Acting is mediocre. Just not as a slick as some of the other movies. I wouldn't recommend it.

A powerful movie without any fancy effects or props to get a message across about what is happening to the ones disappearing from our towns and neighborhoods. These are our friends, colleagues or family members.

I found the film a little slow at the beginning but then it starts to unfold into a real, political conflict that continues to plague our countries. What is happening to middle eastern persons here on temporary visas that expire? We take our citizenship and our rights for granted.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] This is no comedy. That must have been a typo. It is the anithesis of a comedy. There are really several stories inside the film or layers. One powerful layer is the sad state of affairs in the US and Canada about post 9/11 and racial profiling being used by the authorities. Arab looking persons are arrested and detained without being charged and without the benefit of any legal representation. The rest of the movie for me was about one man's dreary life and feeling disconnected to his life and job and then meeting strangers and instantly connecting with them. I think it is a little gem of a film.

I never rate movies as a perfect 10 but I could not imagine rating this movie anything lower. I wanted to stay for the screening immediately following mine! The acting was just flawless. The story was told simply and thoughtfully. A very refreshing gem not to be missed!

This movie does something that so few movies are able to achieve... a connection. Our lives tend to be driven by what defines us (our sex, our job, our place of birth, etc.) and be either work to satisfy those labels or work to destroy them. Having had the opportunity to travel, I have come to know that we are all more similar than we are different. Everyone, from every place, from every nation, want to find success in work, success in family, and success in love. After all we are all human. This film hits at the heart of this and hits it perfectly. Worth every moment.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie (even though he usually likes action movies) and left the theatre very glad that we had gone to see it. We were the only ones in the theatre. This movie wasn't advertised like the others are and all those people who weren't in the audience with us that day, sure missed out on a wonderful story. I wish they would make more like it.

A refreshing portrayal of one mans' dissatisfaction with his life and how he changes when circumstances beyond his control force him to expand his personal boundaries. Well acted and realistic without being soppy. I really liked this film. Definitely a "film", not a movie.

This is a low budget small movie but it has a great message. We tend to forget how small events or people touch our lives in ways we never truly realize or in many cases appreciate. The subject matter comes at a good time too since we have been bombarded by articles on accommodation here in Quebec. If I saw this film at home on T. V. I would have probably dozed off as it starts off really slow and the pace never really takes off either but the characters are very developed and the casting is bang on. It makes you think... in a positive way.

Great great Movie... I see in it a msg against illegal immigration and another for the immigration policy that bad some ppl who deserve this right from getting it, all made in a lovely touching way.

This is a poignant, sensitive, beautifully crafted slice-of-life movie. It might not appeal to the under-30 crowd so much, but if you've got any layers of life under your belt (so to speak), you'd probably enjoy this film.

Even though this is a "small" movie, it is "big" in many ways. Through Walter's eyes, we see what it means to be an illegal immigrant. Who is the visitor? Who belongs here? Who doesn't? Thought-provoking, well-acted.

Totally unpredictable, sensitive, funny, moving. Gives one a great understanding of immigration problems, shows the transformation of a stuffy professor into a warm and gentle human being. Loved every minute!!

I saw this movie when it premiered at the Toronto File Festival. It was astonishing good as it takes you to the place most people end up at once in their life (the widower), which is that he is alone just exitsting. Also - the struggle of those who are not legal is touching and the overall movie is worthy of your time and money.

I am giving this movie a solid 9/10. It is an excellent movie, and definitely worth seeing. Such low budget yet high quality pictures are too rare. The story is so touching and thought-provoking, and the actors are just amazing. It's actually great to see Richard Jenkins (of Six Feet Under fame) play a lead role! His portrayal of Walter Vale is simply perfect, as his character evolves throughout the movie. The ensemble cast is stellar, the story is very well written, and the overall result is a very warm movie about living. We need more movies like this one, that are about the story, and not about which superstar actor is in the picture.

The point of the movie is quite simple, I find. The feeling you have at the end is an encouragement to love what deserves to be loved , namely arts (music), relationships (especially in hard times) It is a touching piece, with great acting.

I expected better with the good ratings this film received. It’s good but not great, a bit slow, touching at times and well acted. At the forefront, US immigration policy, especially after 9/11. Humans are territorial animals, and some are more territorial than others. When you feel insecure, lock the doors and tighten up your borders. Worth 7½.
