Another great movie that will make you think. Agree or disagree, it will make you think about what you believe and why. Everyone should watch this movie. Thumper or not!

I just saw this movie now on dvd. Its quite funny. Made me laugh many times. He's very witty this guy. He does tend to interrupt a lot tho. But I admit... its hard to listen to all that religious nonsense and stay quiet. And the rabbi was pushing it too. He kept going and going without making a point. As a documentary it could have been a bit better, even with the low budget. I didn't learn as much as I thought I would. But overall a great movie. The religion part of "Zeitgeist" is much more informative though. If you liked this movie (or even if you hated it) you MUST watch Zeitgeist!!

This film should be rebadged Ridiculous and not religulous. I am appalled by the multitude of people who found this film even remotely entertaining. I would rate it a negative zero if I could. Religion is about faith and faith is believing in what we cannot see but feel deep in our hearts... Faith is security which gives us peace. Maher is one man trying to discredit religions that has evolved over centuries, over bloodshed. Maher is trying to discredit belief in a divine power. How Ridiculous...

Everything that Bill Maher was saying onscreen is what I was thinking. It is the movie I would have made if that was my profession.

DVD: "Religulous"
Bill Maher is a genius. He raises some valid points in this humorous look at religion and its origins.

Mr Bill intention great seeking solution for peace, I think u should have called religious priest with thier holy books and shld have asked Christian to show the places whereit is written to kill muslim or jew and in he same way shld have asked muslim to show me places in quran where it is written as u hit maturity start killing jews and Christian and n the same way jews..., Bill y u showed up lazy, very passive apptitude and attitude, seemed like u were not finding ways for interfaith harmony but polite way to challenge others faith... doesnt suit to a man with vibrant nature. I was expecting more to be very honest, like asking hypothetical questions and then assesing their depth in concept of religion eg wen u met jewish priest and wen he said those muslims are imbicle u should have y not we a start movement to wipe off these crazies and wld have let the man answer and the audience would have decided its really problem in the religion thing or para religious beliefs.

This movie is not funny at all. It degrades religions. Maher's attempt at a Michael Moore type film failed miserably. He came across as insensitive and it is obvious he lacks any education re religions. He has difficulty asking intelligent questions during the film and resorts to insults and mocking. This film was poorly done.

A great movie! Very, very funny and true! I've recommended it to many of my friends, especially the religious ones. Also, after seeing this film, I had some interesting discussions with friends about starting our own religion, since it looks like such a profitable business! ;-)

I liked this movie. It wasn't perfect, and there is a bit too much Bill onscreen, but I was very happy to see someone shining a light on religions to point out how very foolish they are. If he can get through to even one person that "faith" is not a virtue, it is ignorance with lipstick, and that pretty much *no* part of the Christian or Muslim religions is true, he'll go to heaven. Just kidding. I do hope people who are "not sure" who see this movie will be helped to break out of the box and end up feeling that it's OK to think (and say) that religions are lies, and religious buh-lievers are delusional. It's a step, I know, but a step anyone can make. Imagine there's no religion. It's easy if you try. And this movie will help you.

Very educated in his knowledge of the religions that he targets. Likely to offend some people of "faith" when they see someone questioning their beliefs with real evidence leaving them with no answers to retort. Their only response will be to insult him and call him a hack with no intelligent response. Religulous=REALigulous.

LOL. The number of votes that are either 1 or 9/10 is laffable. Mirrors perfectly the state of our cultures when it comes to theism. If you hope for objectivity in these ratings, don't read any of those particular ratings. Maher is a comedian... as such, he's doing what comedians do - poke fun at things that are currently relevant. After all, religion is easy to make fun of... simply because it and all things based on it are inarguably irrational. Maher IS just a comedian. If you're religious, you may very well take offense to this stuff. Go see another movie. If you want to see Maher deservedly poke fun at religion - you'll get some chuckles. If you're looking for philosophical enlightenment, try the library.

This movie was insulting to the audience. I am an atheist and was looking forward to learning more about the foundation of religion and hearing arguments for and against faith. I feel that this movie was ignorant, manipulative, full of rhetoric and entirely self serving.

Wow. Well religion is certainly a touchy subject. No matter what you say you offend someone. However, it's a refreshing idea to go into this era of objectivity less influenced by mysticism. I personally do believe in God but don't like what religion has become though and I am glad to see that someone out there speaks his mind and is not afraid to say it.

This I a great film and well worth seeing. The bad reviews that have been posted clearly seem to be by religous people who cannot accept criticism of their religous beliefs. It funny that even religous people can see the absurdity of the ancient Greek or Roman religions. [...]

Bill Maher tackles religion's poisonous influence by exposing it's ridiculous and infantilizing beliefs with his peculiar and sarcastic sense of humour. Although not the most informative or in-depth documentary, it is highly entertaining and gets its point across. Also, the movie was a little too short but it at least had no down times. Definitely worth seeing.

Bill Maher's exploration of the religious ocean is very limited. He essentially juxtaposes Muslims and Christians (cannabis faithfuls notwithstanding.., ) No Buddhists. No Hindus. No Aboriginal Peoples. Bill seems to mostly be on a jehad against Christianity, a theme he establishes while interviewing his aging Mother in the Cathedral of Charles. While I was amused by some of the characters Maher interviewed, they were mostly mundane, not the Great Philosophers or Scientists of our time. Also, he interrupted them, constantly. ME! ME! Me! Was the refrain. This film should be on TV as a documentary. It's no better than a Sixty Minutes Episode.

This is a brilliant essay on the how religion leads to ruin. It is a documentary that is at times funny. It is certainly always extremely entertaining. However, its real strength is in its intelligent and powerful argument. I would recommend it to everyone, but especially to those who consider themselves "religious".

Superb, needed to be made. Funny, yet serious, which I think says a lot about how farcical the idea of religion actually is, that you can ask a couple of casual questions, and before long, the answers that come back in defense of religion get very, very silly, very quickly.

Just go see the movie if you’re not too narrow minded. If you are willing to accept that religion is real then you have no choice but to accept that is could also be fake. Choosing otherwise would be naive. This movie does not say not to believe but to question what you believe. “Every corporation has lied, deceived or hidden something from you... what makes you think for a second that the religious community has never done anything wrong. ”

I thought this movie had some excellent points. Obviously, it only shows one side of the debate because that’s the point that Maher is trying to stress. That religious power is scary because it is not questioned. I think that the most important point Maher made throughout the movie was not necessarily to not believe in anything or not to have any faith but just to question everything. I think that if more people asked themselves honest questions on a wide range of topics, they would see that we as humans are not acting in the most positive way for our future. Whether this be in how we are treating our planet or how we are treating each other. Love for each other, our planet and our future should be our compass. If we simply apply that and if there is a god, I'm sure he would agree that this is the best route to take.

Interesting documentary but it is pretty much saying that religion = fanaticism! This is quite arguable... The end is pretty dramatic. Starting with the argument that "doubt" is better than any certitude when it comes religion and ending with the certitude that religion should be eliminated. Quite ironic! Is the documentary dealing with institutionalized religion or religion itself?

He's fighting beliefs with a different belief... plus, this guy mixes different forms of religion without making a distinction or knowing the difference between them. Putting liberal (religious groups) and fundamentalists in the same boat doesn't make sense and is disrespectful. He makes a couple good jokes and good arguments against people that need to be questioned, but in the end, he creates a very inaccurate image of the role religion plays in the world. He never lets people explain, the entire movie is only his point of view. Watch this movie with someone that is informed about religion. A good suject, but the wrong approach. Oh yeah! He is complaining about how people shouldn't be irrational, but this movie is very irrational."Grow or Die!", what a joke!

This is one of the best movie u can ever see because it just would change your view of the world and all what u've been told since birth. He challenges things that no one would ever dare challenging. Only regret is that he spends majority of movie questioning Christinism and much less time for other [...] religions.

Very few religious people will watch this movie--the poster portrays the religious as chimps--which is too bad, because everyone ought to see it. If you believe in God you should expect Him to expect you to use your brain, to ask serious questions and think for yourself, which is what Bill Mahar is doing, and which sets us apart from the chimps.
