If you like just American style (American life) , Go see '' 2 Fast 2 Furious ''. If you like only big nice cars, big fast cars, big stores, Big Mac, big good restaurants, big nice houses, big buildings, beautiful girls with bikini, Rap, Rock, Hard Rock, Hollywood, Walt Disney, football, baseball, basketball, Coca-cola, Pepsi, Molson Dry, Budweiser, etc... don't go see this movie. But if you want to see other things different, go see this movie. Me, I went to see this movie because I wanted to see my country again, Cambodia. I wanted to see how the international criminals hide in my country. I want to see the corruption. I wanted to see rice field, the minefield, the palm trees, the sex selling for food, poverties, misery,... Thank you Matt..

Started off with interest and anticipated the movie but 2 hours in, I must admit I couldnt wait for the credits to roll up. Ending was obivous and lacked little imagination and musical score lacked originiality because it was the same song throughout the movie. Gerard Depadieu was worth the watch, but Dillon's character never really developped and never allowed the audience to associate with him. All in all, if you have nothing to do, watch the movie, however it is not worth anticipating.

After reading the reviews (and not liking most Hollywood fare) I had high hopes for this film but was disappointed. The script had potential but needed more work. The whole 'love interest' thing was empty and cliche. Some scenes and dialogue didn't work. However, I think most of the script problems could have been overcome by better direction. Compare this with The Quiet American, which wasn't a great film either (largely due to the unconvincing Brendan Fraser) , but at least the direction was strong. The other major failing of the directing was not getting better performances from the actors. Most of them are great talents but it really doesn't show here. Dillon is just doing his thing and doesn't fit with the other characters. In fact, all the actors are doing their own thing and not really interacting with each other. The relationships are just not convincing. The best performance is the Cambodian taxi driver. Having said all that, it's still better than a lot of films out there so it's tough to grade it..

I see tons of movies and this one was a gem! I am totally impressed with Matt Dillon's talent as an actor and a writer. Cast was very well chosen and was incredibly varied with faces and physiques of all genres which made it so real. I truly felt transported in Bangkok and Dillon caught the culture, the essence of its people and its delapilated city to excellence. The intrigue is well balanced from beginning to end. I will certainly not miss Dillon's next production. You will truly enjoy this well turned film. Don't miss it!

I went to see this movie with some co-workers and we were all really impressed. It was recomended by a friend who isn't into Hollywood fluff, so that's a good sell with us. I'm not a big Matt Dillon fan, but his performance took me by surprise. His writing was very good. The story was well done and gave you enough clues to try and figure it out. It took some interesting twists and turns. Some were predictable, others not. Stellan Skarsgard's performance was marvellous as usual. Natascha Mcelhone was the perfect exotic beauty. Gerard Depardieu was marvelous in his role. The setting was very well presented. You really felt like you were in an exotic foreign country. And the danger felt very real. A great stepping stone to greater works for this aspiring writer/director.

Amazing movie! Went to see it with no expectations or clue as to what it was about. Cast was superb! Story line was very engaging! A breath of fresh air compared to what's out there now. Directing could have been a bit better, so that's the reason for a 9/10.

Good directorial début for Matt Dillon--the story line is one you have seen before, but nontheless carries its own weight. The backdrop of Cambodia definitely helps this movie by adding a cultural aspect--the Cambodian lifestyle, poverty and corruption is accurately depicted. James Caan is a tad too wimpy to hold a role of power and deception. Gerard Depardieu was smooth and low key, which made his character more believable. Although a few flaws, the 2-hour feature went by quickly.
