This was a story that had to be told and it caused many people to pay attention to an issue that may have been otherwise neglected. However, it seems a bit hypocritical that Moore accuses individuals of profiting off of other people's tragedies, when that is exactly what he is doing. I hate when people shed a tear on camera and then count their billfolds off screen.

In a world where the US uses inexperienced young men and women to interogate potentially extreamly dangerous folk (and gets annoyed when it doesnt work right) in various military jails after 9-11, the content of this movie comes as no surprise. See Michael Moore blow chunks out of just about every theory ever created to justify owning a gun. Sad to see that there seems to be really serious issues of a persons right to bear arms as it relates to western society and how it interprets civil liberties. Some people like myelf feel that having a weapon makes a person tend to avoid certain warning signs as they relate to people places and things, thus causing the weapon owner to end up way over their head in situations they otherwise would not have normaly attempted to traverse. The thing I like best about Mr. Moore is that he realizes that we are not operating in a fair society, but unfortunately many individuals fail to realize that some educational institutions really do suck-many jobs just plain suck-marriage can suck and parents can suck- (but not according to the bulk of family tv most of the time) Too often people are judged on a system of merit points that does not refelct the reality of life in our society. I wonder if Michael Moore owns a gun? Maybe our world is evolving too fast-the methods we use to deal with problems are slow and often dont create justice. Imagine being a young man and a teacher treats you like you are a young man involved in a kinky gay relationship with an older man when you are not gay and all you are doing is living with your own father... what to do... most people would just leave the school-maybe some people feel-maybe rightly-that they have zero options. I think such a student hitting such a teacher in the face will only get the student into quite deep trouble-even if the teacher deserved to be slugged. Not Good. The world is a mess- no doubt about it. What to do-dont ask me-I dont know.

Awesome movie. Michael Moore asks questions everyone else is afraid to, and persists till he gets answers. He doesn't let people off the hook when they hedge on something. I always thought his movies would be boring documentaries, but he rocks!

Although I think this is a movie that everyone should watch, I don't think it's 10/10 material. It was very eye-opening, but anyone who thinks about it for more than a second will realize how "all over the place" he was in this movie. He kind of tweeked the facts a bit. But, it's still a good movie that's mostly true IMO. Definitely see it if you have the chance.

Truly one of the best movies I've seen recently if not ever. It's good to have someone take a stand to question real important issues that sets apart americans from any other country. To have people say that they need guns to protect themselves, but just keep on killing eachother as an easier way to solve any given problem... that's just low. Either say something bright and intelligent for once and then i'll start listening to americans for once. They just don't seem to be making any sense on any position they take. It's not because there's 10 times more people in USA than in Canada that there are more crimes, but because of a statement made by a guy in the movie(wich I forgot who he is) who said that in Canada, we see more important issues on TV about health care and education than in the states. In my opinion, that reflects a lot about our priorities in this world. Being canadian myself, I couldn't be happier to see that in the movie, Micheal Moore was freaked out a! bout how easy we live and how much less insecure we are compare to americans. It's what I've always said before, it'll probably be the same all the time. Just 9/11 freaked them out so bad, the world just stopped for them. They're just not able to move on. So what do we do? Buy guns & amunitions and let's not forget the combat jackets...like that's gonna help! Dumb and stupid...como siempre! (like always) Americans will just never learn.

THE BEST MOVIE/DOCUMENTARY! Some may say that he points an unfair light on the US gun control, when anyone can easily buy ammo anywhere in Canada. The point I thnk these people missed is that he shows us that in Canada we have more people who own guns, availablity to guns and ammo and yet very few incidents of gun violence every year. It is so eye opening. Why is there 100 times the gun related deaths in the US as compared to the other G8 countries?

I think Moore gives us all a look at what really is going on in this world, were not free and we do not live in a democracy. Many may ridicule and chastise this person but the only reason he hasnt dissapeared yet is due to his exposure. We are under more control and constraint than we could ever imagine, herded like cattle to the slaughter.

Keep in mind. It was produced by a Canadian Company. Also, there are school shootings in Canada, despite it's population of only aprox. 30 million people.

Actually I liked the movie I think that it was very educational because we all watched this in my class. Some people may not agree with it but they didn't want to look at the reasons why he made the movie and what he wants to prevent from continuing to happen.

With all the good reviews here, I thought this would be an excellent movie. What I got was nothing more than anti-American propaganda. It is supposed to be a documentary, but he simply shines the worst possible light on the U. S. and does nothing to educate or give us perspective. He repeatedly makes asseztions, and then contradicts himself. For example, he claims that guns are the problem in America, but then he easily buys ammunition in Canada! The fact that so many of us think this movie was "unbiased", "educational" and "eye-opening" makes me wonder if we Canadians are the ignorant ones.

In this horribly one sided excuse for a documentary Mr. Moore shows Americans as gun-toting murderers, The fact that this won an Oscar is a sham. Moore misrepresented facts, and spliceed together interviews to make is opponants seem cold-blooded and mean. Throught the film he preaches in such a sickiningly self-righteous mannner that I as liberal and registered Democrat(someone Moore was aiming the picture towards, I imagine) was sickened by his tone. Moore fails to take his opponants seriiously instead he mocks them, and smugly tells us his "facts". Moore mentions that Canada, the U. K. and Germany have lower gun-related deaths than we do, he grouped all deaths together, leaving out self-defense, accidents and suicides, which are not murders. The fact that Moore blamed the Work-for welfare for the tragedy in Flint, Michigan, shows how Moore disregards other factors, that have contributed to the tragidies, and instead consentrates on things that are perhaps remotely responsible. We should have sticter gun laws, yes, but a piece of biased trash like this hurts the gun-control supporters. Watching Moore exploit the tragedies in Flint and columbine is sickening, almost as sickening as his being rewarded with an oscar for this "film". Watching Moore constantly state the number of gun related deths reminde me of a dialouge in All in the family, this may not be a totally accurate script of the exchange as iam going from memory."Did you know that many(I forget the number) americans are killed by hand guns each year? " " Would it make you feel any better little girl if they was pushed out of windows? " In short, sorry this is so long by the way, do not buy this film. I lived to regret it, thought it did make a fairly good discus. By the way I voted for Nader, in the last election. So I am not a gun-toting conservative..

This is perhaps the BEST documentary that is out there. It is insightful yet unbias, terrifying yet realistic. A true masterpiece in its own right. This movie is a definite MUST SEE for all. It will open your eyes to the world around you, to the people and the enviroment that you peacefully live in everyday, but most importantly it will make you THINK. You will realize the true nature of American society and see its evolution from begining to end.

Excellent documentary, just watched it two weeks ago and am going to buy the DVD. My favourite parts were when text and imagery was used to display numbers and relative history. I can see why corporations don't like M. Moore. Consumers who are asleep to what's going in the world and big companies should wake up and smell the dirty money.

This is the best documentary I have ever seen. Extremely anti-stupid. I hate the fact that the press and city officials put the weight of guilt onto people such as Marilyn Manson, and other rock singers who they say 'provoke' violence. This gives me a whole new perspective on everything American. Charlton Heston is a real moron! I have lost all respect for him.

I've read some of the comments and I think some people think this movie was about Canada & the U. S but the U. S was compared to many other countries, not only Canada. It seemed to me it was trying to tell us how much more violent the U. S'is from most other countries. I don't think people all over the world don't believe there is violence all around them. Most people just don't live with guns in their homes (fully loaded guns) that are accessible to other people around them but in the U. S hunting has always been a good excuse to have "protection" (if that's what you want to call it) I am a Canadian and I know many people that hunt but they never say they need guns for protection, but don't get me wrong I know the hunter's aren't the only people with guns. Guns are to out of control.

Guns, guns and guns... The origin of so many crimes around the world. In Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" sure opened our eyes and helped us find the reason why are so many people commiting sins with those ugly evil black tubes in the USA. But this documentary wasn't only fascinating because of it's content; the editing was absolutely tremendous, it's artistic side wich was the mixing of various cartoons, interviews, older TV news, etc. , was incredibly astonishing. In one sentence : a unique, unforgettable and a must see documentary..

Brain candy for left-wing Canadian hicks. This movie is one big fat attack ad on US Republicans. Typical Michael Moore, jumping all over the place, drawing spurious connections between events and relying on emotional outrage to fill in the gaps. An entertaining demonstration of how to draw universal conclusions from one or two examples. Canadians -- all thirty million of us -- are less fearful than Americans, because Michael Moore walked into two unlocked houses in Toronto. I wonder how many doors he tried that were locked?

This is a sham. It is not a documentary at all. Pieces of speeches were spliced together (any critical viewer can pick it out, or check with the news agencies that actually videotaped them) creatively to make it seem like organized firearms hobbyists were nothing more than stereotypical rednecks. The Academy should be ashamed for such a fraudulent award.

I thought this movie was a little preachy. I couldn't believe that Moore would invite himself to Heston's house and than pin the old man on the location of NRA speeches - I thought that was really tactless. I also thought the correlation between community shootings and subsequent NRA conventions in those areas was really pushing it. I mean come on, how many organizations do you know who would go automatically to areas where their endorsement of a product would automatically reap such negative publicity. Pleeeeeez.
