Excellent beyond compare. A visual masterpiece, yet human at times and very disturbing and unsettling at times. Just a theatrical masterpiece.

Excellent! Very well done. Great story line, unlike those pointless Saw movies. A true fairytale. Love the soundtrack too.

It's a real shame this did not win the award for best foreign film at the Oscars I think it really deserves it.

Warning: Do not invite any of your children under the age of 12 to go see this movie. It is extremely disturbing, cruel, and violent. As said..."Guillemoro del toror doesn't cuddle us"... And you better believe it! On the other hand, this movie is perfect. It is powerful, groundbreaking, and holds an amazing plot. It is highly entertaining. It's definitely the best picture of the year.

Ofelia is captivating as a young girl lost in a magical world filled with fairies, whimsical creatures. It is about the balance of good vs evil. An excellent movie about escapism, fantasy and survival. It you want to be carried away to another world, this movie will be pure enjoyment for you. Highly recommended.

Fantastic movie. Filled with many metaphors of life. The movie's personification of good and evil in the extreme make for a highly effective means of weaving the story. Quite entertaining. Time well spent.

This movie has a very deep story line. The cover of the dvd may look like a kid's movie but it is NOT! If you like history you'll love this move.

Hollywood can learn a lot from this film. You don't need to spend a lot of money on expensive actors and special effects to make a good movie. A good script and director goes a long way. Music score is both haunting and beautiful. Screenplay holds the viewer's attention from start to finish. This story is not a "Alice in Wonderland", but describes a parallel world between fantasy and the hard reality. Worth seeing again and again.

Un très bon film! Le meilleur que j'ai vu cette année jusqu'à date. Plusieurs histoires liées dans ce film, le fait plus bizar et plus intéressant. Del Toro sait de créer une ambiance unique, effrayante et triste. Ce film me faisait réfléchir... An excellent movie! The best I've seen this year so far. Several story-lines making it more bizar and interesting. Del Toro is able to create a unique, spooky, and sad ambiance. This movie makes you think...

Very original and imaginative film. The young actress who plays Ofelia is wonderfully natural. Sergi Lopez is a masterful actor and is very creepy here. The film's real stars, however, are the special effects which provide the eerie backdrop to Ofelia's fantasy world. From fairies to earth creatures, Guillermo del Toro creates a magical underground world tinged with the day-to-day horrors of the parallel real world of fascist Spain. The film works on many levels; from fantasy to reality; from childhood innocence to adult cruelty; from the natural primordial world to the present-day war-ravaged world. Quite the masterpiece.

DVD: "Pan's Labyrinth (Widescreen)"
Good movie, worth renting for sure. Not for kids though, some scary creatures exist. I'm francophone, so I didn't have any problems watching it in French, my wife thought she'd hate watching a movie with subtitles... But actually she enjoyed the movie as well.

Such a good movie. The story is great and the acting is superb. The line between fantasy and reality are blended together seamlessly. I strongly recommend going to see it, one of the best of the year by far.

If I'm watching a movie about war or a Mel Gibson directed flick then I expect to see a lot of violence. But for a movie about fairy tales the gory violence is way out of place.

Marketed as a fantasy this film was a huge shock to my expectations. I wouldn't have minded so much if it had actually made emotional sense but the child's motivation in creating and hiding inside her world were never adequately explained and I'm sorry but 'children in danger' movies disgust me. Wait for the video if you have to see this.

One of the best movies I've seen. The movie concept was something that had me anticipating this one for months. Everything I expected and much more. NOT FOR CHILDREN. Finally a movie that takes a fairy tale just as far as my imagination would.

Masterfully filmed with care and precision. A moving story. Graphically violent at times, but very powerful. The poster tagline sums it up nicely, Innocence has a power evil cannot imagine.

It's beautiful and horrifying. The only problem is that Del Torro conflates leftism, agrarianism, and elements of Christianity, which leads to a kind of ethical muddiness. The theme becomes a sort of turning away from the world, which is contrary to the spirit of the film. This alone makes it less than a phenomenal triumph, but having said that, it is also a must see movie, and right behind Children of Men as the best movie of 2006.

I'd put a 1 out of 10, but I don't want to be overly dramatic. To me, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. First of all, the trailer is very misleading. It turns out to be in Spanish w/ subtitles. And the "fairy tale" part of it is for like 3 seconds at the end. The rest of the time it's a gross and predictable drag with very graphic scenes of torture and murder. Or just boredom. Although the "fairy tale" was actually ever more gross. Very creepy. The story was so primitive that a high school kid may have written it. [...]

Ok so where do I start me and my friend went to this because we were bored and let me just say that it was one of the most messed up movies i've ever seen [...] This was a very brutal movie. DO NOT TAKE KIDS!!! Man, the faun was not what I was expecting. The only seen that I truly liked was the one with all the food and the weird creepy guy. [...] This movie was way to brutal.

The art work and meaning in this movie was astounding. It is an epic tale of being the alien and also being afraid of your own mind. The visual images where beautiful and really, I think this is the real reason man created film, it is beautiful.

It's an incredible movie. Probably not good for younger audience for there are a few scenes of gore, but overall it truly is amazing. The graphics alone will bewilder you. It's one of those movies you'll even ask yourself if you want to go watch it again!

There are many positives about this film: the acting, the cinematography, the imaginative story line and the subtle links between the real and the fantastic world of Ofelia. But all of this is over-shadowed by the unremitting and graphic violence. I was expecting the movie to be violent, but not so bloody as it turned out to be. This is not a war movie after all -- it takes place in the post Civil War years. Many of the reviews I read here surprise me -- didn't everyone else notice? Is bloody violence in films so commonl that it doesn't mérit a mention? Although I think this is a good film in many ways, I regret going. (On another note, the tradition of the mandrake root goes back much farther than Harry Potter as do many of the magic traditions in those films. [...]

Avoid this movie if you dislike blood and violence. The fairy world created around the child was very well done. The depicting of the brutal regime was grotesque and did not need to be such. Most of the violence, supposedly the source of the child's imagination, was not seen by her. The fantastic world would have been much more effective if the rest of the movie had been limited to what the child had seen or heard. If screems are what she heard, why do we have to witness a massacre?
