It is mindblowing. The script is excellent, the acting is stellar, and yet we have a new gangster classic. It's an epic which is purely award-worthy. The discussion between Frank Lucas and Richie Roberst in the end is electrifying. It carries lines which cannot be anymore intelligent. The extended unrated version is better though, it's way more developed and entertaining. Yes it feels a bit pointless and messy with so many scenes, but it doesn't feel overlong. The whole movie is engaging. This is Ridley Scott at his best.

Good movie, but didn't quite live up to the buzz. Denzel's acting is always exceptional, and Crowe did a good job as well. Movie felt a bit "grey" and "monotone"... probably intentional. It was fun seeing Denzel as a bad guy.

Bravo Denzel, well acted and great story. I don't care if it is based on a true story or not, it is believable. This is an excellent crime drama. (I don't like the term Gangster, because the way it is interpreted these days.)

One of the best movies I've seen in a long time!! Denzel Washington was mesmerizing in this role. So powerful and true! Russel Crowe's character was less defined though, but the acting was good nevertheless. Definitely worth watching, but put aside 2.5 hours, it's looongg!! (though I never felt it was dragging)

This movie is a combination of a great plot, great play by actors and outstanding directing. The atmosphere makes the viewer look back at the epoch of the 60s. Excellent movie.

Acting is superb, a fantastically entertaining movie, several memorable, newly classic lines. Very violent, and only somewhat accurately portrays frank lucas; it is a movie though, not a biography. Excellent film.

Who could ask for more in a movie if you have two stellar actors: Denzel and Russell acting to the tee, a fast-pace action-drama with amazing photo angles, great quotes and the song "Hold on, I'm Coming" by Sam & Dave. Oh and Denzel looks Amazing in his suits especially on the cover of the movie poster. A must must seee!

I thought this movie was pretty bad. It was all over the place and I didnt really know what was going on other than some guy is smuggling heroine into america from some asian country. The best part of the movie was the ending haha its pretty gay dont waste your money on going to see it.

Such a disapointment. Way to long and drawn out. Only became decent when Washington and Crowe were in scenes together, which two hours to get to. I can see why this movie took so long to make. It really wanted to be the next Mob Epic but came up way short. Would not recommend this movie at all.

Bad (over-)acting on behalf of Crowe, and on behalf of Washington it isn't any better. Slow and boring progress of scenes, which oftentimes seem strangely disconnected from each other. The only good acting is from Josh Brolin. Overrated movie! Stay away...

Truely a masterpiece - always been a Washington-fan, and Denzil has shown again why he ranks tops with the likes of Bluce Willis. Definitely a hit - oscar to both Denzil as well as Russel Crowe - very good movie, best I've seen in very very long time... surprized to see the drug'situation during the 70's and the amount of cops on the take... was shocked... One Cop taking on the entire Police Dept in N. Y. - My God this man should have been given freedom of the city status. I would say 10 out of 10 for this fantastic eye-opener, Well done, Ann Bothma from South Africa.

Great writing, excellent acting by Crowe and Washington who share an equal amount of the story. Their first meeting is like DeNiro's and Pacino's in "HEAT". The film looks great with that funky 70's feel, don't miss it in the theatre.

Made me think about NEW JACK CITY. Somewhat long; 2.5 hours, but some good twists and strong characters that are complex and some very bad behaviour that'll definitely feelin' somethin. Based on real story too.

You never got to know who Frank Lucas really was... Denzel could have done this much better. The character development of Lucas was missing, and Russel Crowe was miscast as the police detective hot on his trail. The best actor is this movie was Josh Brolin. He has come a long way and it's good to see him in roles that tests his metal. I understood this movie because it was set in the 70's, and I can relate to the musice but the kids who showed up cause they thought it was a "Gansta" flick must have been dissappointed. Wait for the DVD.

I loved this movie, I watched it twice, I liked how it showed the struggle of black america which at the time was to make something of yourself or work under the white man. Denzel- excellent performance, T. I wasnt bad either. However it wasnt completely believable.

It was alright. You need to be very awake to watch this as it's very easy to fall asleep if you're not wide awake. The ending was amazing in my opinion, but the rest of the movie was a typical gangster movie. Nothing special. The ending is the only reason this deserves an 8 from me. Although Denzel's performance was great.

A very mediocre movie. It was much too long and it is the first time I ever saw a movie that did not change in excitement level or interest level at all. It started out mdiocre and kept the same standard throughout. A very disappointing film. It was trying to be another Scarface but never even came close to that level. The characters were not interesting or believable. A real bore.

By far, one of the best films I've seen in the last few years, fantastic performances by two gifted actors. It sort of brought me back to the cop movies of the 70's. Love the style of the film, all characters are 3 dimensional which makes them real. Considering the poor films available last year and the year before, this one really reinvigorated my love in movies once again. A must see and I place this movie among such classics as Serpico and Prince of the City. As far as mafia movies go, next to Godfather 1-2 and Goodfellas, this film is right up there.

This movie is an interesting one as it takes place at a time that was a turning point in american history. I think the movie did well in its casting but feel it could have been more clear about the level of corruption. A little long but well worth it.

As far as gangster movies go, I would put it a notch below Good Fellas, Casino, Scarface (The Godfather I and II being in a class of their own...) The dialogue between Frank Lucas (Washington) and Richie Roberts (Crowe) at the end of the movie was fabulous!

Ridley Scott's done it again, made a long epic-like film without much weight to it. Personally when viewing this, I felt there was a significant divide between the two storylines. The story of Frank Lucas was excellently acted by Washington, and was gripping. But Russel Crowe and his storyline just didn't have the same power. He was okay, but his story just felt very unrealistic and I couldn't tell how much was manipulated. The film was far too long as well, there were so many parts that were unnecessary to the flow of the film.

I saw this a while ago but I forgot to leave my comment so it's never to late anyway. The acting was excellent especially from Denzel as usual, also a great story but sometimes it felt like it was a bit long missing some action so it dragged on a little but still very interesting. The movie won't be in theatre for a long time now so if you haven't seen it yet and your planning to wait for the DVD then get it as soon as it comes out, it's worth it!

I can think of very few things that I want to sit through for three LONG hours. Although the acting was top-notch and the story interesting, it dragged on - especially at the beginning. The story could have easily been told in two hours.
