User's review

I've been waiting for this to be released for a while and it didn't disappoint. It's a very basic love story combined with both a social and historical outlook into 1960s USA. The inclusion of Beatles songs in the scenes are especially well used and, surprisingly, I thought Evan Rachel Wood sang her parts very well. She isn't a singer but still pulled it off. Jim Sturgess also has a voice that reminded me of Coldplay (some might say thats a bad thing but I like Coldplay!) The settings were excellent (especially Liverpool's ship yards and surrounding estates) and the imagery in Eddie Izzard's tent where the characters go to indulge in some LSD (I assume!) was simple but effective. The only criticism I had was that attention seeking, annoying fool Bono being in the movie. I liked how two of the main characters were much like Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. A great movie in general and it has everything; music, history and sociology, love, action, drama. Well done Julie Taymour!
