User's review

It's not often I would give a movie a full star rating basically because there are very little movies out there that are THAT good. I had huge reservations about going to see this movie because James Wan's movies to date have been nothing but unintentionally funny and very disappointing (Saw and Dead Silence respectively) However this time he has made a hugely enjoyable movie where you really care about the main character and his family while having nothing but malevolance against the bad guys. John Goodman has a very minor role but, like every other actor in this flick, is excellent. The movie is beautifully shot with a lot of the natural colours of the surroundings, objects and actors bleached. By no means is this movie original since you can clearly see influences from movies like Taxi Driver and The Punisher, but at the end of the day it's a great show and the tension at the climax is thick. My only criticism was that the bad guy's death scenes should have been gruesome, but I guess that would have implied that Bacon's character had finally went cuckoo which would have been a cheap way to summarise the character's journey and would have been untrue.
10/10
