A mentally exhausting movie. However thats not a criticism. Very far from it. What I mean is that this movie was depressing for those who want to go and watch a simple tale of goodies vs baddies and see Batman beating up the bad guys and saving the day. Christopher Nolan, the cast and everybody involved in making this absolute masterpiece have beautifully blurred that fine, simple line of old style comic book crime fighting. A lot of the things the Joker says about people who scheme (politicians etc) versus the spontaenous psychos like himself is interesting and really does hit home in todays circumstances the world finds itself in. On the topic of the Joker, Heath Ledger will be even more sadly missed because he was excellent. I didn't believe anyone could beat the performance of Jack Nicholson. Ledger nukes it. Everything from the little licking of his lips to the way he walks and the very air of presence he commands in the role are breathtaking and a truely memorable experience. The plot line of the movie is superb, dark and true to the comics. The make up and CGI on Aaron Eckhart for Two Face is fantastic and the character was great. The ending of the movie is satisfying and certainly not a typical Hollywood ending. There is no closure and no victory. The only actor in this movie that was unconvincing and crap was Maggie Gyllenhaal. Atrocious and certainly no Katie Holmes in terms of acting skill and beauty. However she didn't ruin the movie. A truely great experience for me watching it. One of the best movies Ive seen and I'm immensely glad that Chris Nolan is behind the Batman driving seat.
