User's review

Not for those who get confused by experimental ideas. The film brilliantly conveys different aspects of Dylan's life and work, interpreted by some of today's most fearless actors. Cate Blanchett shines as she eerily takes on one aspect of Dylan's persona. Christian Bale is equally impressive. And an unknown teenage African-American actor gives an outstanding performance as well. The director, Todd Haynes (who also directed the superb Far From Heaven and Safe), knows no constrictions as he pays no mind to gender, race, or age in the various depictions of Bob Dylan to create a fascinating pastiche of the great icon's life and work. The film is confusing at times, what with the different phases of Dylan's life weaving in and out, and the different actors portraying different facets of his persona, but overall it's highly enjoyable--and there's also the terrific music!
