This was a great feel good movie! Saw it with my mother, and twenty-something daughters. We all loved it! We all left happier and lighter.

I guess I'm jaded, having seen the stage version twice. The movie version does not hold up. Being a good actor does not make one able to be in a movie that requires that you also be a good singer. Meryl Streep mostly holds a tune, but she doesn't have a voice comparable (in the least) to those on stage - nor does she suit the role of Donna Sheridan ~ it just doesn't work for me. Colin Firth basically held his own, but was hugely miscast as Harry Bright ~ he would have been much better as Sam Carmichael. Pierce Brosnan as Sam Carmichael may be easy on the eyes, but cover your ears - OUCH! Stellan Skarsgaard, don't think he sang more than a bar or two - but also miscast as Bill Anderson, who, in the stage version is MUCH funnier. For the ladies, Christin Baranski can sing & dance, this was just a very different style than the stage version. I quite liked Julie Walters and thought she portrayed her character well, as did she sing well. Lead Amanda Seyfried did well. I know this is not the stage show ~ but at least they could have gotten actors who could actually sing. I keep thinking that the great reviews this movie is getting are probably coming from people who haven't seen the stage show, in which case, GO!! The music is great ~ but, please, try not to clap or sing (like 3 ladies did while I was watching) ~ that's just rude.
