User's review

Well this movie certainly did live up to it's hype. I love it when a Canadian film is done to near perfection, and this one definitely is. Mucho Kudos to Paul Gross who is one of Canada's most accomplished actors, writers (as he writes screenplays, plays, songs...) and directors. Passchendaele was a passion project, and you can tell that a lot of time, thought, effort, and resources were poured into making it the outstanding movie that it is. Each element is solid. The acting is top notch. The writing is tight. The editing is perfectly pieced together. The cinematography is incredible, bringing you right in the trenches with the soldiers, giving us a front-row center seat of how it must have felt to be in their boots (even though no one could ever truly duplicate that feeling accurately), and the directing is paced just right. Some may find the following comment exaggerating, but I believe that Passchendaele was able to capture the human aspect of the war much better than Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan. It's an excellent movie, a real must see. It will not leave you indifferent. And you'll want to stay during the first part of the credits, you'll see why!!!
