I loved it so effing much. People expected it to be about the music, but no one really knew how it all started, and this movie tells you all about it. It is really an amazing movie, and I can't wait to own it.

Was very dissapointed with this movie - high expectations since it is from Ang Lee. I felt it was all over the place - there were split screens, often into 4 screens and you had no idea which one to watch. The film was full of sterotypes and I felt zero compassion for any of the main characters. There didn't seem to be any sense to why some of the supporting characters were in the movie. Liev Schreiber's and Hirsch's character in particular, what was they're backstory? There was very little music and no concert footage. One positive were the sets, since it was set in 1969 it was great to see the old cars, buldings, clothes etc...

Excellent piece of movie magic here. I was thoroughly wrapped up in the vibe and feel this movie conveyed. A great substitute for those of us who couldn't make it to the original Woodstock concert. If you're looking for explosions and pornography this movie won't suit your needs. If you're looking for a mellow trip with plenty of subtlety and depth, this might be the one for you. I hope to see it again.

Oh my god it was painfull to watch this hack job piece of garbage. I sat there bored out of my skull wishing it to end while throwing popcorn at the screen. Someone should burn every copy made of this film quickly before more people are made dumber for having watched this debauchery.

B-o-r-i-n-g, don't waste your money- save it up for a concert.

So, the comments are right, it's not a movie about the concert but about one family impacted by the event. If you want the concert, then the original 3 1/2 hour documentary is the way to go. I'll commend the movie style as Ang Lee uses the documentary style of the original in split screens to tell his story. I loved the random characters who appear in the movie and in the documentary and the music... well there are pieces in the background that mirror the concert. Could the movie be better? Sure. Still, watchable with some good moments.

This not really a movie about Woodstock, the festival. It is a movie that focusses on the story of a few people peripheraly involved in the staging of the concert. It does well in showing a human side to what has become an almost mythical cultural event. The acting is good, and the story is engaging, although there are still a few cliche moments. Well worth seeing as a comedy-drama in which Woodstock is only a convenient historical backdrop. The 26 year old female movie buff who saw the movie with me thought it was great. I felt there could have been more to the story (and I can't help wishing that Robert Altman would make a movie about Woodstock)

I was not sure if I was going to like a movie about the story of Woodstock... but I was wrong. It's a dramatic comedy based on the life of a young man struggling between wanting to live his own life and responsibilities. I laughed from beginning to end. Enjoy!

This movie pretty much sucked. I'm sorry but wasnt the whole thing about music and this big concert that was being put on? There was barely any music, and we didnt even get to see the concert! It was slow and I wanted it to end.

It was not what I expected: this film is too stupid for words...

Great movie. The beginning was really slow and boring though. Demetri Martin's acting in the beginning was quite bad and bland. It was also a little difficult to get the facts out from the beginning. But as the movie went on it got a lot more interesting and Martin's acting got much better. Really good movie.

A small 'insider' look at one family and the farming community that hosted the Woodstock phenomena. There were some moments that made me wish I had been there, but I would have liked to see more of what an up close attendance at the concert would have been like. I didn't get that "far out man" feeling that was the heart of the event.

Wow, what a disappointment. It was boring, the characters were not likable, and the ones that I think were supposed to be funny were far from it. We walked out and got our money back.

A relatively plotless coming of age movie. Odd how the movie is about the biggest concert ever, and the music was relatively no existent.

Although I give this movie a 7 it still could be much better. I can always tell when the rights to music have not been obtained or if budget was a factor. Even still, we get a glimpse of how Woodstock came together by the willingness of Max Yasgur a milk farmer and a teenager in a nearby town named Elliot who had run music and arts festivals in the past few years leading up to the caos and magic of Woodstock. Definitely a coming of age film in many ways and a nostalgic look at our innocence and idealism which unfortunately faded away like an evaporating dream. If you are expecting to see Janis or Jimi or Santana or any of the bands that played Woodstock, you will not.

Taking Woodstock is a good and very interresting movie weather you know about this iconic festival or not. The movie is not about the artists that performed at this event but revolves around how this "happening" came to be and some of the people behind the scene and from the village of Bethel N. Y. You will hear however some of the music in the background. I think it is a good depiction of how things where in the late 60's I would recommend that you see the documentary movie "Woodstock" before hand as there are many subtle references to things we see and hear in the documentary and from the actual making of this documentary. (it's available on you-tube) A must see for all generations.
