The directors cut version is the way to go on this one. I advise people not to see the original version. My rating would drop 2 points otherwise. Great musical direction.

Rented this movie to set up s. Darko which my husband wanted to see. Turned out to be a really engaging, trippy, mind-bend. My husband, who was exhausted at the time of viewing, never fell asleep... unheard of!!! Fascinating movie! Jake Gyllenhaal was especially convincing.

Wow. This movie is mesmerizing. I couldn't stop watching it. It's also the kind of movie you're likely to see over and over because the first time around you surely missed at least half of all the details that make sense of the movie. Jake was good so was everyone else. Definitely worth the rent if you are into these types of movies.

A really cool, original movie with a great soundtrack. Patrick Swayze is great and the bunny makes for the best halloween costume for 2002!

The movie is simply unparalleled. Its honestly ahead of its time by light years... I have already been attached to a good character-based movie but having a strong sentimental attachement to almost EVERY single character in the movie is just crazy. The character relation in the movie is meant to work together in order to propel the movie forward. It only takes 5 min into the movie and trust me, you'll already be immerged into its depths. The details, the hills, the valleys... it's a world so far away you cant even touch it... ;-p The movie as a whole including the music and the sounds are just perfect, it simply works. The movie is perfect. Personally, if anything similar happened to our world, Donnie Darko would be the ideal example of how a tangent universe would truly affect us.

Donnie Darko is a bold movie that is able to escape typical Hollywood stranglehold of the movie industry. The movie is narrated and perpetuated by an adolescent innocence that is clouded by dementia. The special effects and soundtrack envelop the movie with suspense and climatic moments that are only resolved at the end, for those who pay attention. The movie doesn't beat one over the head with a/the "message" or "meaning". It appears to remain up to oneself to gather meaning. And the ponderance that follows the viewing of this movie is only surpassed by the realization that this movie was made with a smaller budget than the average pro football player makes in a year. It is a must see. Not everyone will love it, but it is without question worth a viewing, and what a movie should be.

I have seen this movie 34 times as of yesterday, after 34 times I still don't fully understand it. This is by far the best movie I've ever seen. Acting is amazing, music is perfect for the time period, and the incredibly twisted and complicated storyline will have you watching it over and over just so that you can understand it better. Please see this movie either in theaters or at home. Definitely a MUST HAVE Dvd.

This film is so monumental I dont think anything like it will be seen again for years, it has so many layers and can be inturpreted so many ways, you could watch it 50 times and come up with a differnt theory on it every time. So refreshing a film that will have you thinking for weeks.

A truely epic film, amazing storyline, played brilliantly by the cast. There are so many questions and meanings that go unanswered, and then you realise that you dont need to know, but not knowing made it a great film. I love it. Banner.

This movie was made with an inexplicable ability to draw the viewer into Donnie's fantastic world. Apart from being amazingly well done in terms of photography, music, acting, and directing, the movie's subject matter is also incredibly interesting. The only problem, if it can justifiably be called that, is that it takes a few viewings to fully appreciate every concept this movie explores.

One of the most effed up movies ever, but to where certain parts are funny, dramatic, or just may scare the hell outta ya. Easily the best movie in the history of cinema. The music fits perfectly and the score is bonechilling. Buy it right away, and if you think the screwiness stops there, check out the website.

Let me tell you, because of September 11th, this movie was never allowed to be advertised, never making a hit in the box offices... so, so, so sad. But it is now an underground film to forever have a growing group of followers. This movie has brought up many debates within my group of friends, about "paralleled" meanings the production crew had created. A most see, and love the soundtrack.

I love this movie. I was wondering if anyone's read 'Watership Down'? I'm kind of curious about it after seeing the film as it appears to have had a big influence on Richard Kelly. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to sell me a burnt copy of the soundtrack? I swear, I've never burnt a cd or recieved one except for a crap weezer cd someone insisting on burning for me. I Drew a cover for it and want to make a booklet so I don't want a commercial copy. If anyone's willing to help, please e-mail me. Thanks. Jana.

I bought Donnie Darko last night because I heard from someone that it was really good, but I didn't know anything about it at all. I'm so happy that I got it- it was terrific! It evoked a lot of emotions and a lot of thought which is what a good movie does- and I can't get the song Mad World out of my mind- it's a great rendition of an old song. I still don't totally understand the movie and might never figure it all out but it's worth seeing over and over again.

"Donnie Darko" was (for lack of better word) a masterpiece. It explores the human mind deeper than any other movie, book, television show, article, or any other work of media ever has. It gives you the life of a young boy and says "Go with it, what do YOU really think happened? " This is certainly not a movie for the slow-minded, it leaves the viewer thinking about it for as long as they think they have a grasp on what really occured in Middlesex. In short, "Donnie Darko" is a must see for any person who has wondered about indulgences within a human mind, any person who throws off the limitations set by others, or any person who wants a change in modern cinema.

Every single aspect of the movie Donnie Darko is so captivating. The whole aspect of time travel and weather or not it is real or not is breattaking. I think everyone would agree that this movie kicked some serious ass!!! Now everytime I put a movie in I dont even really want to watch it because I feel I have already seen what there ever will be to see in video. Plus Jake Gyllenhaal stoled my heart over and over even though he was playing a crazy weirdo im still madly in love with him. Must see it for yourself I have watched it over a million time and I saw it for the first time a week ago!!!

What a fantastic movie. Best I've seen in quite some time. I really enjoy movies that make me think and push me to the edge of my comfort zone. All I can say is... wait, I can say a lot of things. So I will end by saying that if you have brains, you'll like it. If you're a Julia Roberts fan, go elsewhere.

I did not like this movie at all- when the director came out afterwords (NYC) he was drunk. Pathetic and so high on himself, he porbably thought he could fly. He burped and smiled about it and could not even answer questions- apparently- he was just as out of it when he made the movie- Thank godness he admitted that he stole everything that was in the movie- cause for a second, I thought he was schizophrenic!

Just rented Donnie Darko last night. I was totally entertained - one of the freshest most original films I've seen in a long time. Finally, something un-Hollywood that captured my full attention from beginning to end. I really dug the soundtrack as well, being a twenty-something in the 1980's.
