[...] It's a horror movie (13+) with a lot of rebounds, but by the 3/4 of movie, the end becomes foreseeable. However, the story is very original. By the special effects, they had it that I had never seen before (fluorescent painting) The music was not bad. The actors were good, but the little dumb girl, it's my favorite, Therefore, I give it 8/10.

I think this movie was very well put together. It kept me on my toes, and the twist in the end was very clever. I would say this is more of a psychological thriller rather than a horror movie. It's a movie that has a storyline that is not outplayed by Hollywood which was refreshing. I would defiantly recommend it.

Enjoyable. Starts slow but picks up in a hurry. Gets a little creepy and awkward near the end. Wraps up with a great twist and a non-typical ending.

The shock value at the end of the movie was worth the price of admission itself. The build-up to the climax was well-paced and atmospheric.

What a creepy movie! Not exactly scary but might it give you the chills. The story was quite creative and even though I knew what the twist was, I managed to enjoy the ending.

The past few years, I got fed up of those zombie movies. The Orphan is almost like fresh air as it's not about monsters or zombies. Pretty good plot and directing. Very good thriller.

Refreshing psycho thriller. A bit slow off the hop and predictable at the time, but a good new take on horror.

Well- I wasn't bored. I didn't like how this movie was filmed, like it was trying a little too hard to be scary when it wasnt. I still would have thought it was ok if not for the "twist" ending, which was ridiculous and completely ruined it. I wouldnt even recommend renting it, I would wait until it's on tv.

While starting off semi-slow," The Orphan" definitely picks itself up mid-way. Though, you will begin to see yourself growing tired of the repetitive tactics that are being thrown at you throughout the scenes. Once everything begins to get unfurled, the surprising twist in the movie gives you quite the shock in the moment, but looking back at it, it is highly unrealistic and farfetched; but it is a movie, so once you get past that part, it is highly enjoyable once it's reached climax. It pays itself off in the peak of the movie, but getting there was quite the bore. If you're willing to live through choppy acting and lackluster efforts to thrill the audience until the climax, then it is definitely worth your while.

When I watched orphan I thought it was one of those typical horror movies like friday the 13th but in the end it turned out to be unusuall it started out incredibly boring but as it got about half way through the tension started to build up [...], anyway it was alright but it wasnt such a horror more of a physcological thriller which might annoy others again I think this is a good movie but more thought could have been added to it.

I wasn't expecting alot out of this movie. It looked like another predictable 'nice lookin kid goes bad' Fortunately, it was more than that. The girl who played Esther did a tremendous job and the story felt like there was some actual effort put into it. It was more of a Psychological thriller rather than a horror which may dissapoint some. All in all... not too bad.

What did everyone smoke before seeing this movie? Are you kidding me? Why is everyone saying it was a great 5 star horror movie?! It was a replicate of 'The good son'from back in the 90's. The first half of the movie was long and dragged out, and when it started to get somewhat suspenseful, it was too late, I was already uninterested. The acting was horrible and somewhat comical at parts. This is a good movie if you're about 14 years old. I'll give it one good thing, the development of orphan was original. Other than that, don't waste your money. Rent it on a rainy day.

I went to see "Orphan" not knowing what to expect, and I must say this movie did not disappoint. It grabbed my attention immediately and kept me on tenterhooks the entire time. The storyline is original, thought-provoking, and undeniably creepy. Even though the film is slow-moving at first, it has a great elaborate plot. The suspense gradually builds, and leaves you shaking in your shoes, wondering what will surface next. I also thought the setting was appropriately fitting... bleak winter scenery seems to work well for movies of this genre. The directing and editing for this production is perfect too. As for the acting, it's fantastic. The performance of Isabelle Fuhrman as "Esther" is stellar and by far much scarier than Damien in the Omen She is able to change from evil to angelic at the drop of a hat. Her character is very believable, and you will be shocked out of your senses by what she does. The other cast members give a great all around performance as well. Oh, but brace yourself for the ending... it's the best part of the film. There's a surprise twist you won't see coming that will knock your socks off. Be forewarned, there is some graphic gore in this movie that may really disturb you, as well as some sexuality that's a little heavy. Also, I would have to say this is more of a psychological thiller than a horror, but judge for yourself. Overall, this was a fun ride. You won't soon forget dear sweet Esther.

Every now and again we see plot lines borrowed from other films. They give the public about a decade to try to forget the details of these past/similar films and then rewrite the same premise into something that appears cutting edge (during a preview tonight I saw an upcoming film that was almost certainly a remake of I Know What You Did Last Summer, without the IKWYDLS part __ (fill in the blank)) Orphan, although a cleverly crafted film with good visuals, strong direction and acting, is nothing more than the 'evil child living with an unsuspecting family' motif that we have seen before. This may have begun with "Omen" in the 70s; an American family in England unknowingly adopts the son of Satan in the form of a baby boy. With all intents to love and raise the boy as their own, they slowly realize that all is not right with this child. Fast forward to the 80s and McAuley Culkin appears as a psychotic homicidal child who dupes an average family into taking him as their own. Orphan follows in this vein as an avergage couple with two small children feel the need to love a third child from a local orphanage. Esther is a bright, articulate 9 year old who at first appears sweet, then odd, then disturbed and finally homicidal. The family struggles with their own demons amongst the trail of blood and deception that Esther leaves in her wake. This film has all the qualities (appearance, pace, direction, acting)of the best horror/thriller films and should rank high among critics and fans of the genre.

This is a very good movie, surprisingly so. Besides the 1st 20 mins being kind of slow, I really enjoyed this thriller (I would categorize this movie more of a thriller rather than a horror movie) The child actors are strong and the plot brings about an unforseen twist. Whether you are a fan of this genre or not, you should go see it. 8.5/10.

Scary for kids, I guess. I don't know what's up with these painfully mediocre "horror" movies -- they always have the same vibe - play a kind-of mystery game filled with the standard suspense movie tactics until the big, supposedly "twist" near the end. That seems to be the north american horror movie style. It's not satisfying, forces movies to rely on gore and unoriginal tricks, and it makes the horror movie all about mystery mind games as opposed to getting really scared. The Asian directors are where the best horror films are coming from, and the Americans (and Canadians) can't hold a candle to them. Check our Kurosawa's "Cure" or this Korean film called "The two Sisters." The direction in the film is a bit hackish, and the movie's way too predictable. Not very sophisticated.

I actually thought this movie was pretty good. Now I have seen scarier movies by far but I did jump several times during this. What I thought was the creepiest part of the movie was when she was coming on to her 'supposed adopted father' near the end. Just before I found out how old she really was I was like 'ewe' she's 9 years old man. What the hell? Isabelle Fuhrman played a really freaky character. And the hidden drawings on her bedroom walls!! Definitely not the thoughts of a 9 year old. Overall I did enjoy this movie. I would see it again.

The film is not particularly good and it picks on a very vulnerable population that is already facing a very negative sterotype. How about if we avoid it for all the foster kids out there.

Superb. WAY WAY WAY better than it had to be. I only went to see it because of all the great reviews it is getting. It really took me by surprise. The direction and editing of this film are amazing! No, there are, of course, a couple moments where you have to (briefly, s most of these instances sort themselves out later) allow yourself to suspend disbelief, but all in all, very believable. Great acting by most, especially Isabelle Fuhrman (Esther)

Orphan, the best horror movie I have ever seen, it has a story line and not to much blood and gore. But it still scares the crap out of me. There is things that jump out at me. And things that are just twiisted. It was an amazing movie tho and I suggest you go see it.
