There were moments in the film when the impact of the genocide hit home, but after having read Romeo Dallaire's "Shake Hands with the Devil", I thought it over-simplified what was really going on. To be fair, it's tough to bring everyone up to speed on the history (a commentary in itself on how we in the West ignored such a huge tragedy) without bogging down the story. For that it was well done. I was really looking forward to seeing this film, but unfortunately I came away a little disappointed. It didn't knock me over the way Schindler's list did, though I thought Don Cheadle was amazing. Nick Nolte, looked and sounded drunk. And someone should have told Joaquin Phoenix, the news cameraman, how to hold a camera properly! The writer/director Terry George should have stuck to just writing this. Though the writing was good, it looked more like a TV movie than a big screen feature. A more seasoned director would have pushed it further. A good and important movie to see, but not great. I'm looking forward to seeing the documentary "Shake Hands with the Devil"..
