The film was beautifully shot, and well acted, and as far as a romantic film based on homosexual love go, it was a bit watered down to make it "acceptable" for mainstream audiences. The story seemed a little to unbelievable in a couple areas. The first, is when Ennis' character realizes he's gay, there didn't seem too much inner conflict about it. Also when his wife discovers his other side, she keeps it to herself all those years without confronting him. His children too seemed oblivious to the fights and arguments; happily saying "good-bye Daddy" as he storms off and with his wife screaming at him. Perhaps it was a state of denial on everyone's part, but to me it didn't seem very honest. As a story, it could have been much stronger and more dramatic if the wives and children played a more significant part in the "forbiddeness" and secrecy of this love. It could have also been about a half an hour shorter as it was. Not a terrible film, and a good introduction to the topic of homosexuality for all those squeemish heterosexual men. (I admit I was not very keen on seeing this, but found it transcended the usual mental obstacles) I just think it could have been better.
