Milo (Ryan Phillippe) is a young computer genius with a golden future. But when he plans to start up his own company, he receives an offer he can't refuse: to work for a multi-billion dollar corporation, run by Gary Winston (Tim Robbins). With a talented new colleague (Rachael Leigh Cook), Milo is soon caught up in the exciting job. But when new developments are brought to Milo with great speed and frequency, he begins to doubt their source. Tragedy strikes and it looks as if the company will stop at nothing to win.
